"You saw my future?" Renan asked, his expression confused as the girl stood there with a weirdly serious look for someone with a cute girly face.
"Yes... Your future is cold..... Sad....." She lowered her head slightly, her voice soft but firm. "You're just a piece in someone else's game."
Then she reached out and took his hand.
Renan instinctively tried to pull away, but she was stronger than she looked, and with his back pressed against the pillar, made so he really couldn't back away.
The boy knew she was weird, but he never imagined she was weird enough to consider herself a psychic.
And anyway, she was being way too vague about what she was trying to say.
"I can feel there's a darkness inside you, and invisible threads wrapped around your body," the girl kept talking.
Once again, Renan tried to get away from her and managed to pull his hands back with force, making the girl let go as he started walking away.
"Wait... I..." the girl said, watching as he was leaving. "Sorry, sometimes I can't control it," she said embarrassed.
"Wait. My name is Wendy… I'm kind of like you," she said, walking up to Renan.
He shook his head, trying to ignore her.
"You're the vampire who haunted the city last night, aren't you?" Wendy said quietly, still following him, even knowing she could be putting herself in danger by admitting she knew the truth about a vampire.
But she needed to know. She had heard the rumors about what had happened the previous night. The girl could see the future of other people, but Renan's was different.
His future was much more clouded than anyone else's.
Renan froze for a moment.
"Let's pretend we didn't have this conversation," he said, trying to brush her off.
"I'm a magical creature too..." she revealed, her voice carrying a note of sadness. "I knew the vampire you killed. His name was Demian… he was my master." She continued saying in a low tone.
"I'm a Siren," she whispered and Renan barely heard it.
the girl glanced over her shoulder, wanting to make sure no one was spying on them.
"A Siren?" Renan asked, keeping his voice low to respect her secrecy.
"I'm not really sure what that means either… but ever since I met him one night, I've been able to see people's futures," she said, then began rummaging through her teddy bear-shaped bag and pulled out a diary covered in all kinds of stickers.
Wendy flipped through the pages, revealing that the diary was completely filled with notes from the past few months.
"Here…" she pointed to one of the pages. "Please read it."
Renan found it strange, but did as she asked. Her handwriting was flawless, and as his eyes scanned the words, he grew more and more disturbed. It was a perfect account of his future.
He looked at her, afraid, thinking maybe she was some kind of stalker, and she noticed that.
"No… it's not like that…! It's just.... My old master made me write everything about everyone I knew," she said. "Damian was also from the university, and he was afraid someone else would become a vampire and try to kill him."
Renan didn't know if he could believe any of that, but it wasn't like she could do anything to him at that moment. If she tried something, he could probably defend himself. And with the diary, he could turn her to the police accusing the girl of being a crazy stalker.
"You were the least likely person to become a vampire, according to the visions I had," she said.
And Renan wasn't sure whether he should take that as a compliment or not.
"Okay, but now that you don't have a master anymore, you can just leave me alone."
"No… I can't be without a master…" she said, sounding desperate. "I can serve you! I will be your tool to see the future for you! I know I can do it, I just need more practice with my power..."
"No." He said plainly.
"Please, please, please!"
"I already have a girlfriend."
"I know. I really don't mind... I just want to be useful!"
The boy sighed, seeing how much the girl was humiliating herself like that.
"Alright, I'll think about it and give you an answer tomorrow."
He was lying, but it was enough to make the girl jump with joy.
