Jun Wu froze when he felt the crooked-looking old man's gaze in his direction.
His heart pounded heavily against his chest like a war drum.
He stared at the old man but could not remember his face. This was the first time he was seeing him.
As for the crooked old man, he stared at Uncle Kai's building and an evil grin crept up his face, showing his missing tooth.
"Did you just say you know who killed my men?" the Fierce Tiger Gang Boss stared at him.
His gaze was cold and piercing.
"Yes," he nodded, and a sardonic smile appeared on his face as he turned to look at Uncle Kai.
Seeing his gaze, Uncle Kai creased his brow. 'What is this good-for-nothing crook up to?' he thought but did not have any change in his expression.
The crook only looked at Uncle Kai for a moment before he shifted his gaze to the village chief.
Watching his action, all the villagers were confused, and one of the impatient women shouted.
"Old Liu, tell us who killed them. Do you want us to die?"
In the village, no one liked Old Liu. He was lazy, scheming, and a pervert that wouldn't hesitate to peep on women when bathing.
He never liked to contribute to the village but wanted to share in every hunt.
Therefore, he was not liked by the villagers. If not for the village chief, he would have been chased out of the village a long time ago.
"Old Liu, if you have anything to say, just say it." The Village Chief said calmly.
A palpable tension hung over the villagers as they gazed at Old Liu.
A chuckle escaped from Old Liu's lips. How could he not know how the villagers perceived him?
To them, he was nothing but a vermin, but now, he was going to change that.
He averted his gaze and looked at the Fierce Tiger Gang Boss. "Sir, the village chief harbors the killer. I advised several times to reveal the killer, but he refused."
"If you can make me the village chief, not only will I make sure no such thing happens in our Clearwater Village, I'll also double our protection fees."
Gasps!
All the villagers widened their eyes in disbelief. None of them could believe their ears.
What is this bastard saying?
"Y-You…" a villager pointed at him. He was an old man. He was one of the oldest people in the village.
He stared at Old Liu in burning fury. Veins protruded on his aged, withered face.
"What? Did I say anything wrong?" Old Liu sneered.
The Fierce Tiger Gang Boss watched the scene before him with a smile that wasn't a smile.
For the Fierce Tiger Gang men, this was nothing but an interesting show.
Even a fool knew what was going on. But who cares?
"Tell me who killed my men and I'll make you village chief," the Boss said in a low voice.
"Hahaha. Of course, I'll tell you." Old Liu laughed, his face full of bright smiles.
He turned and pointed at Uncle Kai, "The boy lives in his house. He has been housing him for the past month. He's the son of the Jun family that you destroyed."
"What!"
Everyone was stunned, including the gangsters. The Fierce Tiger Boss could not believe his ears.
He looked at Uncle Kai, "Is this true?"
"Sir, that's all lies. How could a boy not older than fifteen years kill your strong men?" Uncle Kai denied immediately.
He glared at Old Liu and added, "Although I saved the boy, he's nothing but a mere scholar. He poses no—"
Bang!
Before Uncle Kai could complete his statement, the closest gangster kicked his gut.
Ahh!
Uncle Kai stumbled backward, blood splattered from his mouth.
The villagers shuddered at the sudden brutal kick. Watching this, Old Liu did not have any change in his expression.
Jun Wu was burning with fury. He gritted his teeth, ready to dash out from his hiding spot.
However, when he remembered Uncle Kai's last gaze, he controlled his impulse.
But what he knew—he wasn't going to let this bastard go unscathed.
"Take him. We shall make him pay for his foolishness," the Boss said and turned to look at Old Liu.
His contractor had commanded him to kill every member of the Jun family, and now a boy was alive.
He knew nothing good would come if his contractor learned of the news.
"When was the last time you saw him?" His eyes locked on Old Liu.
Under his piercing gaze, Old Liu shivered, his back drenched in cold sweats.
"I-It's over three days. He came home injured and has never left the house," he responded, pointing at Uncle Kai's house.
"Bring him. Dead or alive," the Boss commanded.
Instantly, five gangsters rushed toward the house.
Hiding behind the door, Jun Wu acted swiftly, dashing inside the house.
Just as he entered his room, he heard the sound of the entrance door kicked open.
He did not need to be told to know who they were. He picked the small leather bag and rushed to the window.
As he reached the window, one of the gangsters opened the door and saw.
Whoosh!
Jun Wu jumped out of the window, escaping.
"Where do you think you're going?" the gangster shouted and followed him.
His shout alerted the others, and they rushed toward his location.
Outside, Jun Wu appeared near the kitchen and dashed toward the village entrance.
With all the Fierce Tiger Gang Boss and his men, he knew it would be impossible to kill them.
Although he was not afraid of death, he did not want the innocent villagers to die along with him.
The thought of Uncle Kai dying because of his revenge made him shiver.
How could he do that?
Uncle Kai had been nothing but his savior and helper.
Thus, he was going to do everything to keep him alive.
Whoosh!
He jumped over the wooden fence in one swift motion, racing toward the village entrance.
Behind him, the five gangsters were chasing him, closing the distance.
