Chapter 44 - Unexpected Situation : Defeating a Constellation

Despair coloured Zayden's face as he stared at the mighty constellation floating in the air, spatial cracks around him as if showing the end of the world.

That was when something unexpected happened.

From his pocket, something floated up into the air, right in front of the constellation. Zayden's eyes focused on the smooth oval thing, the size of a fist, and his eyes couldn't help but widen.

It was the egg, the first legendary reward to appear on planet Earth, and at the same time, the most mysterious thing he had seen in his life. The system had minimal knowledge of it, further fueling his suspicion.

The constellation, still drawing more of his power, didn't seem to notice the egg in front of him. The egg suddenly shone a bright black colour, which had some hints of red and purple.

The energy of blood, darkness and fire could be felt coming from it, in strong waves. Feeling the energy, the Phantom Warlock finally noticed the egg in front of it.

There was confusion on his face, but he had no time to do anything; he needed to draw more of his energy and kill Zayden, so he decided to ignore the egg for now.

He didn't stop to think about how the egg could float up under the pressure of his power that even the planet couldn't handle.

But that was his biggest mistake.

A large suction force came off the egg, directed at the Constellation. It was so fast, so sudden, that the constellation was left stunned as three streams of energy came off the constellation.

One was cosmic energy, the other was a purplish stream of energy which represented the phantom energy of the constellation, and the last was a golden energy, the energy of the world.

That was right, the small egg was devouring the energy of the world that came off the sealing chains.

"What the hell is happening?"

The constellation bellowed in anger, but it could not move. The suction force was so strong that any attempt for him to move would be in the direction of that egg. Fear colored his eyes as he started thinking.

'What sort of existence would be inside that egg, strong enough to devour energy from not just a constellation, but from a world?'

The body of the constellation was becoming more transparent, and the chains on his body slowly disappeared. The spatial cracks threatening to swallow the planet previously closed up like they weren't there.

The Phantom Warlock gave up. There was nothing he could do now. He could only wait for his death.

The strong suction force suddenly stopped as the egg stopped glowing. It slowly floated down, hovering in front of Zayden, and it even gave a small burp, not seeming to know the commotion it had just caused.

Zayden stared at the egg, his curiosity already reaching its maximum. He calmed his heart and checked the incubation rate for the egg.

[Egg of Unknown Origins]

[Rank: ???]

[Incubation: 98.99/100%]

Seeing this, a smile crept onto Zayden's face. This was a jump of about sixty percent, but Zayden didn't find it surprising after all, the egg just took in the energy of a constellation.

Zayden quickly focused his gaze on the constellation, which was once floating in the air but had landed on the ground. His body was becoming ethereal as if he could no longer hold on.

There was no way Zayden was going to let a chance like this go away. He took a fighting stance, his killing intent latching onto the constellation. He was about to activate the strongest skill in his arsenal, even if it meant using up all his remaining cosmic energy.

His two hands were put at the side of his right waist, curled up as oblivion flux, with the power of darkness gathered, the sheer strength that could be felt from the attack was frightening.

The darkness shone dangerously testament to the power that was used to activate it.

"Kamehame.... Wait a minute"

"Umbral Beam"

He shot out a beam of oblivion flux with a high concentration of darkness, going toward the constellation at alarming speeds.

The constellation had already given up; he knew there was no chance for him to defeat Zayden anymore, let alone kill him.

Every one of the people here was a freak, forming contracts with constellations that he could only dream of meeting. The egg that took a major part of his power made an impression on him.

He knew that if the people on this planet were allowed to go, they would be a force to contend with in the future.

But with all this said, it still wasn't thinking about forgiving Zayden. No matter what punishment he would get for forcefully descending on an incomplete planet, he was going to find a way to kill Zayden, if not now, then in the future.

Zayden had made him lose a lot more than could be explained in a sentence.

With all these thoughts floating in his head, the beam of darkness was already in front of him, and his death was at hand. Well, not just real death, but his death on this planet was at hand.

"I'm going to kill you, Zayden Vega!!"

He bellowed in anger, his eyes carrying intense hatred.

Seeing this, Zayden just smirked. This childish constellation was very amusing.

"I'm ready for you anytime, but the next time you will not be able to fight me"

Zayden's voice reached the ears of the constellation just before it died, and he had to admit that the growth of the people on this planet was monstrous. But he didn't have to worry, he was a constellation after all, and it would take some time before they would have strength akin to constellations... Right?

Author... Right?

The Umbral beam swallowed him up, and the beam kept going and only showed signs of stopping a few minutes later.

As the attack died down, no part of the body of the constellation was noticeable, not even the dust that should have come from death could be seen. It had been annihilated.

For a moment, there was silence, only the occasional whooshing of wind against their ears could be heard, as if the world was thanking them for saving it this time.

Then the realisation hit them, the realisation that they had managed to repel something akin to a god to them.

"Yess !!!"

"We did it!!!"

"We saved the world!!!"

Everyone saw it the strength of the constellation and the destruction that it could cause on the planet, and they had managed to hold out, repelling the constellation, without any losses.

The gaze with which they looked at Zayden changed. even though they helped, they knew that majority of the praise went to Zayden, the strength he displayed wasn't something they could imagine especially the kamehame... Ahem the last attack.

They didn't outright say it, but they knew that they would be unable to defeat Zayden in a battle.

Meanwhile, a smile appeared on the face of Zayden. The strength of the constellation was enormous, but with the help of the world, they had managed to repel the constellation.

At the same time, a stronger determination hit him. This wasn't a fantasy novel where the villains would wait for him to get stronger before he fought them (it was a Sci Fi novel), it was real life and anything could happen at any time.

The only way to at least hold his ground was to get stronger and he would do it no matter what.

The familiar chime of the system messages entered his ears and this time it was not full of quest, it was full of rewards, and one particular reward made his eyes shine.

"Seems like I might not have to wait to increase my strength after all"

Zayden smiled.

****

In the vast expanse of space, the plane of constellations, among a cluster of different shining constellations, one particular constellation gave off a dim light.

The phantom Warlock constellation had already been punished by the world, the stars on his constellation were weak, but there was nothing he could do about it, and he knew that his punishments weren't over yet.

Suddenly, the space wrapped, and the next second, four people appeared. three men and one lady.

One of the men had white flowing long hair and the same beard style, his presence alone seemed to command lightning to appear in space, without the need for clouds.

He was Zeus, the god of lightning.

Next to him was an equally old man with black hair but no beard, black eyes that seemed to stare into the soul of anyone that met his gaze, he wore a long cloak that shrouded the mysteries of the world within and a scythe behind him that could shatter stars with one swing.

He was Hades, the god of death, souls, and the underworld.

Beside him was a fairy, with pale blue skin, pointy ears, cold eyes that could freeze souls with one look and a pair of translucent wings on her back.

She was the Norse goddess of ice, Skadi.

and finally was a young man, who seemed to be in his mid twenties, he wore armour made from high their tech that could only be imagined, an intrigued expression on his face as if he couldn't wait to study, his eyes flashing with glowing blue circuits.

He was one of the strongest gods of technology and innovation, Neurox.

These gods were more like celebrities among the constellations, and seeing them in this cluster, the constellations were restless, their stars flickering, only the Phantom Warlock knew what was happening

His day of reckoning had come almost immediately...
