The car ride back to the mansion was tense. Kaelen's arm remained firmly around me, his body heat radiating through my sweater. I kept myself as rigid as possible, staring straight ahead while pretending his proximity didn't affect me. But my heart betrayed me, hammering against my ribs so loudly I was certain his supernatural hearing could detect it.
When we arrived, Kaelen insisted on carrying me inside despite my protests. "I can walk perfectly fine," I muttered, but he ignored me, sweeping me up as if I weighed nothing.
Once inside, he set me down in the living room but kept a firm grip on my wrist. The moment the door closed behind us, his eyes darkened.
"We need to talk," he said, his voice deceptively calm.
I crossed my arms. "About what? You've already explained about Selene."
"Not about Selene." His intense gaze fixed on mine. "About your jealousy."
My face instantly heated. "I wasn't jealous!"
