Kael's POV.
My boots echoed on the stone steps as Brian and I headed to the dungeon, the air becoming colder, stronger with every step.
My heart pounded, my fists clenched tight, the memory of the maid's trembling hands and that poisoned tea burning in my mind.
Aria, my Luna, my mate, had almost drunk poison, and I'd forced it down the maid's throat instead.
My wolf, Zeus, growled low, ready to tear into anyone who threatened her.
"Why'd you need me?" I asked Brian, my voice rough, my eyes fixed on the dark hall ahead.
"You could've handled the maid yourself." My arm still throbbed from the fire at the Fang Pack, and my patience was thin, my anger hot.
Brian sighed, heavy and tired, his brown eyes serious. "She won't talk, Alpha," he said, his voice low, his steps matching mine.
"She's acting strange, dull, like she's dying. Keeps fading in and out." His words hit me like a punch, my stomach twisting.
