Just when I thought the festival couldn't get crazier…
"Next up!" our class rep shouted through the mic, "Tent Tag Team Challenge! Two-person teams must build a tent using these mystery supplies — and with partner!!"
I blinked. "Mystery supplies and a partner."
A wheelbarrow rolled out with tape, one tent pole, two plastic spoons, and…a giant pink bedsheet.
"Oh no."
Before I could blink, Kai appeared beside me, already picking up the tent pole. "Guess we're teaming up, partner."
Theo stepped in smoothly, arms crossed. "I don't think you should be her partner."
"Why not? She clearly needs someone with muscles and brains," Kai smirked.
Theo raised an eyebrow. "It's wasting of time i will be her partner."
Now i think that I stuck between their argument.
Kai holds my hand. "We make a good team. Remember the locker key incident?"
Theo stepped closer and hold my other hand. "Yeah. I remember saving her while you argued with a mop."
"Guys calm down…" I said slowly, backing away slowly.
But they're grip on my hand was tight.
"She doesn't need someone loud, Kai," Theo said, voice calm but firm. "She needs someone who can really help her."
Kai scoffed. "You think you can help her better than me?"
Theo narrowed his eyes. "Yes why not and well I'm more smart and amazing than you."
The crowd around us was eating it up like a drama episode.
"Um, hi? Hello?" I looked at them but they we're looking at each other in a dark gaze. "Maybe I should just pair up with the tent pole."
Before either could reply, the class rep suddenly called out:
> "And our final team — Theo and Lila!"
Kai's jaw dropped. "WHAT?!"
Theo laughs.
Kai said in frustration. "Wait, who decided that?!"
"Random draw!" the rep yelled, already moving on.
Kai watched as Theo walked beside me, smirking while looking at him. And his jaw tightened and grabbed a classmate to team with.
As we knelt on the grass, trying to tape a bedsheet to a broomstick, Theo leaned closer and said just loud enough:
"Sorry about earlier. But I don't like to sharing things that matter."
I froze.
My heart jumps and I hesitate.
So, I stand to take some breath that got stuck in my heart for Theo and suddenly i slipped and fall over Theo and he catched me (gravity attack) and thank god in this time there was on one or it will get a disaster.
And for once… I didn't know what to say back.
