Shawn, an average student, lives with his family, including a sister who has been suffering from the mana absorption virus for 12 years. This virus emerged after unknown creatures appeared from a mysterious rift. Scientists later discovered that the mana absorption is a result of an "awakening failure."
At school, during history class, Shawn learns about the initial appearance of these monsters 12 years ago. They emerged from a rift in the middle of a city, destroying half of it. The military's modern weapons were ineffective against these creatures.However, ordinary individuals, later known as "The First Awakeners," unexpectedly gained powers and were able to fight back.
Unlike those initial, natural awakenings, people today must enter a special "Awakening Rift" to gain powers, which is expensive. A more affordable, though still costly, alternative is to study at an "Awaken University," which grants free entry to these rifts.
The Hunter Association was founded by one of the "first awakeners" and assigns ranks from F to S based on power. F-rank hunters are considered ordinary individuals with regular jobs, while E- to S-rank hunters possess abilities to fight monsters.
Jobs are assigned through a system within a "rift" that evaluates an individual's skills. F-rank jobs include normal professions like farmer, cleaner, chef, and others. Higher ranks (E to S) can receive jobs such as swordsman, martial artist, archer, or magician, it's depends on their unique abilities.
Today is Awakening Day, a highly anticipated event for students like Shawn. During the ceremony, the principal announces that after awakening their unique skills and jobs, students will have different paths. Those with F rank awakenings will continue their normal lives, while those with E to S rank awakenings will have their mana measured at the Hunter Association. The announcement is being made for individuals to prepare to enter "the rift," and names will be called out for entry. Everyone is wished good luck.
