Later that evening, the trio gathered beneath the Tree of Oaths, away from the celebration.
Liselotte looked up at the glowing petals above, her hands folded over her chest.
Liselotte (softly):
"I never imagined I'd have two men at my side I could trust with both my life and heart."
Jon (quietly):
"You've earned it. Your people love you. Your enemies fear you. And we…"
He paused, his single eye locking with hers.
"…we believe in you."
Sam (grinning):
"I used to think I'd live my life buried in books. But now? I wouldn't trade this path for anything."
The three sat in silence as a soft breeze drifted around them, spirit energy humming gently beneath the tree. Jon leaned back against the bark, exhausted but content. Sam leaned on Ren, who had joined them, her hand casually holding his.
Liselotte (after a pause):
"You both swore yourselves to me today. That burden… I won't take lightly. I promise."
Jon:
"It's not a burden. It's a choice."
Sam (chuckling):
"And you'll find I'm a very persistent advisor. I plan to make your kingdom efficient, fair—and very well-read."
They all laughed. For the first time in a long while, there was no blood, no war—just peace beneath a sacred tree and a bond deeper than any title or vow.
But far beyond the lantern-lit city, dark forces stirred.
Their peace would not last forever.
But tonight—it was enough.
