Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – Echoes in the Smoke

Part 1 – The Quiet Before the Counterstrike

The fire in the war room had burned out.

Alexander stood with his sleeves rolled up, eyes fixed on a digital map as Cipher and Valkyrie debriefed the last global pullback. One by one, their key assets had been hidden, rerouted, or cut loose to protect them.

"We gave Julian a taste," Valkyrie said. "But not the kill shot."

Alexander nodded slowly. "Not yet."

A red dot blinked on the screen in Zurich, where Liana had delivered her research.

"We've bought time. Time to change the story, reshape the battlefield. But he'll come back with venom."

Elena closed her tablet. "He won't underestimate her again."

Alexander looked toward the upper floor of the estate, where Liana slept restlessly. "No. Which means we have to rewrite the endgame."He turned back to his team.

"Full blackout. Deep rotation. We vanish for now but before we go, leave him one message."

Cipher raised a brow. "What message?"

Alexander's smile was razor-sharp.

"Tell Julian Wolfe the Queen is off the board. And the King has begun to move."

Part 2 – The Father's Code

Morning light spilled across the library as Liana wandered down the old wing of the estate half-ruined, filled with time-faded tomes and dusty boxes sealed since Alexander's mother passed.

A narrow trunk marked with her father's initials sat in the corner: D.R

Her breath caught.

She knelt, opened it. Inside were folders. Medical reports. Unfinished letters. And one sealed envelope labeled:

Liana – If you're reading this, they've come too close.

She opened it slowly, fingers trembling.

"I was never just a doctor. I was part of something—Project Seraphim. We were trying to use regenerative medicine to help

soldiers with neural trauma. But they took it further… into weaponizing healing. Julian Wolfe funded it in secret. I walked away when I found out what they were doing—injecting children with the serum. They used my research. They used me."

Liana's tears blurred the ink.

"Your gift isn't just talent. It's legacy. You carry the unlocked version of the genome. That's why you survived the fever as a child. That's why you can do what others can't."

Inside the envelope was a second USB.

She plugged it into the tablet.

Alive DNA sequence lit up a cure sequence. One Julian had tried to bury.

Her voice shook as she whispered, "This changes everything."

Part 3 – The Black Net

Julian watched from the shadows of his alpine retreat, walls lined with surveillance screens.

On one, a still of Alexander and Liana wrapped in each other, taken from a drone hours earlier.

On another, a flashing message:

"Retreat confirmed. War assets blacked out. Liana possesses Project Seraphim unlock code."

He smiled coldly. "Let them think they're safe."

He turned to a man in the corner his new operative.

"Phase Three?"

"In motion."

A clip played: An official subpoena for Liana's arrest. The charges: medical malpractice, bioterrorism, and corporate theft framed to look airtight.

Then another feed showed Alexander's old safehouse in Prague being breached.

And finally, a final screen blinked on.

A live camera pointed at someone bound to a chair.Alexander's old mentor, Dr. Thorne.

Julian's voice was a whisper of venom.

"If he won't kneel, we'll bleed his history dry."
