Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"It seems you were indeed right, doctor. It is sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis," Dr. Benjamin Rhodes said with a smile.

Luna Davenhart had initially thought that he would react in a not-so-good manner. After all, it was his expertise that was being questioned—and was found wanting.

While the entire room was baffled. They never expected someone, especially someone so young, to challenge their senior doctor—or to win, actually. It further amazed them to see him laugh it off and take it lightly. He was known to be someone with a pretty bad temper. Never did they expect him to react so coolly.

"I always appreciate young talents. I'm not holding a grudge against the future generations. They have to be better than us to give us a better future, after all. And I don't know your name, Dr...?" Dr. Benjamin Rhodes said, appreciating her.

"Davenhart, Dr. Davenhart, sir," she said, comprehending the wise words from him. It seemed his wise eyes could detect her skill. Yet she felt something was wrong with him.

"I'm hoping to work with you," he said enthusiastically.

"Same here, doctor." She left there with Zoe Grant in tow.

"I can't believe what just happened," Zoe Grant reacted. This was a miracle for her, not just her but for everyone who had just witnessed it. The doctor she was assigned to help seemed like a big deal rather than what she imagined.

"Well, diagnosing a condition isn't that hard, Dr. Grant. I'm sure you're aware of that," Luna Davenhart told her coolly, even when she was well aware that what she did wasn't ordinary, and Zoe's being astonished was not exactly out of place.

"Well, diagnosing without even checking their vitals or the report about their conditions is a miracle. Who are you really?" Zoe Grant wondered. It was obvious that she wasn't a normal doctor.

"Are you really going to be with me the whole time I'm here?" Luna questioned.

"Of course, that's what I'm assigned to," Zoe replied to the obvious.

"Can I trust you?" Luna asked playfully. It didn't feel right not to tell her the truth. After all, she had taken the precaution—not exactly, but soon enough, there was no point hiding it.

"Yep, doctor. For real. I'm extremely trustworthy," Zoe swore with confidence.

Luna couldn't help but laugh at her childishness.

"I'm Dr. FT," she said coolly.

"Of course you are, and I'm the American president," Zoe replied—then paused as she realized Luna wasn't joking. She stopped in her tracks, while Luna, who had walked a few steps ahead, had to return to face her. She placed a hand on Zoe's shoulder while she pinched her with the other.

"Ouch. What was that for?" Zoe complained. She was already in shock because of her, and now she was hurting her.

"To make you understand it is not a dream," she said cheekily and started walking.

"OH MY GOSH. You really are FT!" she said—her voice couldn't contain her euphoria.

"Keep your voice down," Luna commanded. She didn't want to attract an audience.

"You really are FT!" she said in a hushed tone. Not even in her wildest dreams had she imagined it to be true.

"Yes, I am—and I thought it was clear by now," Luna said, feeling a bit tired of her reaction. She had work to do. The last thing she wanted was a fangirl with whom she had to share most of her time. She had initially thought that Zoe could handle the news, but now she had second thoughts.

"You are a medical genius. The sacred. People would just fly off with you if they realized this fact," Zoe said, trailing Luna like her shadow.

"And that is why you have to be quiet about it. Or else, sweetheart, you will pay for it," Luna warned her.

"Nope, not a soul will be aware of it. You can trust me 100 percent," Zoe promised. She wasn't stupid enough to let this slip. She considered herself lucky to be able to work with her.

She knew about this medical genius from the time she started loving the medical field. She wanted to be like FT once. But never had she imagined her idol would work with her, or that her idol would be a beauty with brains.

"Well, that's a really good decision," Luna concluded.

"So what are we going to do now?" Zoe asked. For her, it was like working with her favorite superhero.

"You are the one who should tell me about my schedule," Luna mildly reminded her. She could understand her coworker's excitement, but she wanted to follow the schedule.

"Oh, well, there isn't much today. Just familiarize yourself with patients and no appointments. It's tomorrow that's going to be hectic," she said.

"How hectic is hectic?" Luna questioned. After all, she wanted to know if it would be more than what she usually did.

"A couple of appointments and some checkups," Zoe said.

"It's good. I'm afraid I will be rather happy with this lifestyle," Luna sighed.

"Huh? You like your life so busy?" she wondered.

"This isn't as assiduous as it used to be. Traveling from place to place and taking care of people is pretty hard and exhausting," she said. Even if her words contained the exhaustion of the things she had to do, somehow Zoe was able to see the passion she shared for this profession.

"I guess you do get so many cases, especially from affluent people."

"True enough. Even if I do care for such people, I love taking care of those who can't afford it, who are poor but with severe conditions. They are the ones who really need me," Luna concluded. After all, there was no difference for her. It didn't matter if they were rich or poor. They were all patients who could only be saved with her help. That is all she ever considered.

"You are really great," Zoe's admiration for her just multiplied.

"Can we finally just do what we are meant to?" Luna asked.

"Of course," Zoe replied.

Luna smiled inwardly. She could see the innocence and naivety of Zoe Grant. It seemed that she had earned a friend.
