Chapter 48 - Episode 45 The Name In Flames

THE DEVIL'S BRIDE

Episode 45: The Name in the Flames

By Rapwizzy Debaron

"Aleir..."

Evelyn whispered the name again, her fingers tracing the glowing symbol carved into the scorched earth. It pulsed faintly—alive, like a heartbeat trapped in stone.

Kael knelt beside her, eyes shadowed with dread. "That name—it was forbidden. Erased from the archives of Heaven and Hell."

Lucien's voice was barely a whisper. "Only one being bore that name before the Fall."

Evelyn turned to them. "Who was he?"

Lucien hesitated. "He was the original light. The first Seraph. Before me. Before Kael."

Kael clenched his jaw. "He was the one Heaven feared most."

---

The wind grew cold. Around them, the battlefield lay still, as if the very world held its breath.

Evelyn stared at the fading sigil. Aleir… why do I feel like I knew you long before I knew myself?

Her head throbbed.

Flashes.

Of golden towers.

A garden without end.

And a boy with starlight eyes, holding her hand beneath a sky that never darkened.

"You promised to find me," his voice echoed.

Evelyn's breath hitched. "I made a vow…"

---

Lucien rose, sword still in hand. "This changes everything. If Aleir is still alive…"

Kael interrupted, voice grave. "Then Seraphina isn't the true enemy. She's just a key."

"To what?" Evelyn asked, heart pounding.

"To the Vault of Origin," Kael said. "Where the gods locked away everything they feared."

Lucien's jaw tightened. "Including Aleir."

---

A deep rumble shook the ground.

Above them, cracks split the sky.

Darkness spilled from the heavens—thick, violet, unnatural.

Out of it stepped a figure in pure obsidian armor, face hidden, wings made of twisted time.

Lucien's eyes widened. "No…"

Kael raised his blade. "A Harbinger."

The figure raised one skeletal hand.

A deep, distorted voice echoed:

"The Bride has remembered. The Cycle must be completed."

Evelyn stepped forward, her silver wings flaring.

"Then tell me where he is."

The Harbinger didn't speak.

It attacked.

---

The clash lit up the world.

Kael and Lucien fought beside Evelyn again—steel and fire, shadows and fury.

The Harbinger was unlike anything they'd faced—predicting their moves, striking with divine precision.

It knocked Kael back, cracked Lucien's blade, and drove Evelyn into the ground.

"Your heart is torn," it hissed. "Your power—divided."

Evelyn, bloodied and breathless, rose anyway.

"I loved Kael… I loved Lucien… but Aleir—he was my soul."

Light burst from her chest, engulfing the Harbinger in flames of remembrance.

---

When the light faded, the Harbinger was gone.

Only ashes remained.

Kael staggered. "You burned him with memory."

Lucien sheathed his broken sword. "We don't have much time."

Evelyn looked up at the crimson sky. "Then let's end this."

---

To be continued…

A forgotten love. A sealed vault. A burning sky.
