Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Sovereign of Spirits

Fu Liangmu remained utterly composed. "Too much soup tonight."Su Wanwan nodded repeatedly. "Understood."Fu Liangmu rose and walked toward the door. "I'll go handle this first.""Alright."

After he left, Su Wanwan finally picked up her phone and messaged Xia Kelan.I doubt there's anything wrong with his health.Xia Kelan replied with a sly smile emoji.Wishing you happiness.Su Wanwan fell silent.

More than half an hour later, Fu Liangmu returned. Su Wanwan had already changed into her usual pajamas and glanced at the door lock."How did you get in? I clearly locked the door!""The lock's broken; I haven't had a chance to fix it yet."Su Wanwan forced a smile—what an incredible coincidence!"Well, if that's the case, we don't have to—"Before she finished, Fu Liangmu had already climbed onto the bed.

At the police station, a new auxiliary officer was taking Xiao Fang's statement. The woman before him was relentless, her teeth clenched fiercely, recounting every detail vividly, while he struggled to suppress yawns.

Knock knock—he heard a knock at the door, glanced back, and immediately rose, stepping out with a cheerful greeting, "Boss."Gong Dan stood there, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, eyes glancing inside."How's it going?""Almost done. It's nothing serious—no major losses on either side. The person will be released tomorrow morning."Gong Dan frowned."No release.""Huh? That's unreasonable. The woman's just sharp-tongued; there's no cause for detention."Gong Dan scoffed, flicking ash from his cigarette."She crossed the wrong people. Walking away isn't that simple."With that, he turned and left. The auxiliary officer hurried after him, curiosity driving his questions."What did she do? Isn't the other party the eldest miss of the Su family?"Gong Dan's eyes narrowed slightly."Some questions are better left unasked. This is none of your concern."

Back in the office, barely settled in his chair, someone handed him a file."Boss, the charity donation approval came through—one hundred million!""That benefactor is truly magnanimous! Surely, that's what they've contributed inside and out over the past seven or eight years."The man gestured expansively.Gong Dan flipped through the papers."Not just donations—they've built over ten schools as well."The man sighed, "Such a mysterious figure. Nowadays, it's rare to find someone donating so generously yet remaining anonymous.""I still remember when the Su family's second miss donated a hundred thousand—she livestreamed nonstop for half a month to boost her fame."Gong Dan murmured meaningfully,"Same Su family bloodline, yet such a stark contrast."

The next day at the office, Su Wanwan's seat sat empty. The atmosphere was palpably tense until Liang Yixing arrived, shattering the silence."Sister Maya, your husband is here to see you."Li Maya looked up to see Liang Yixing leaning casually at the edge of the sales department, greeting her warmly."I brought some afternoon tea for everyone—let's have some together.""Boss Liang, every time you visit Sister Maya, you bring so many treats—we're embarrassed!""Yeah, it feels like we're basking in Sister Maya's glow."Liang Yixing smiled debonairly, adjusting his tie."Why not bask a bit more? I've already booked a restaurant; I hope all the handsome gentlemen and lovely ladies will grace us with their presence."Cheers erupted."Boss Liang is so generous!"

Liang Yixing smiled faintly, his gaze drifting toward Su Wanwan."Miss Su, come along too? Maya told me about yesterday's incident. Consider it our way of making it up to you."Li Maya's smile faded, her eyes sharp as needles, wishing she could pierce Su Wanwan with dozens of invisible holes.Su Wanwan only gave a nonchalant hum without looking up."See you tonight, then."

After work, the group headed to the restaurant Liang Yixing had reserved. Su Wanwan trailed at the back, texting Fu Liangmu:Dinner gathering, will return late.

Upon arrival, they discovered Liang Yixing had chosen Bihai Pavilion, the most bustling and expensive venue in the West City, where even a couple of dishes easily cost over a thousand yuan. Liang Yixing spared no expense, ordering many costly dishes and uncorking a bottle of 1982 Lafite."An '82 Lafite must cost fifty to sixty thousand yuan a bottle... Boss Liang is truly generous."Liang Yixing smiled modestly,"As long as everyone enjoys the food and drinks, money doesn't matter."

Someone teased Li Maya,"Boss Liang has such refined taste, Sister Maya!"Li Maya forced a faint smile.

Liang Yixing's lavishness—could it be for Su Wanwan? The wine passed around in a circle, ending with Su Wanwan. She raised her hand, lightly covering the rim of the glass."Sorry, I don't drink."

Still haunted by the last time when Boss Gao's glass floored her, Su Wanwan remained wary. Though skilled in tasting wine, she was no stranger to getting drunk."Since you're here, Miss Su, don't be so ungracious."Liang Yixing stood, taking the glass from the waiter, seemingly ready to pour for her personally."Sorry, I'm unwell and really shouldn't drink."Su Wanwan's tone was calm but firm.

A flicker of embarrassment crossed Liang Yixing's face, yet he pressed on."It's rare for us all to gather. Don't let me down.""I won't insist—just one glass. How about that?"Su Wanwan's fingertips tapped twice on the glass rim, a faint, elusive smile playing on her lips."Is that what you call not insisting?"

"Su Wanwan, we're here to have fun—you're too stiff.""Yeah, it's just a drink, what harm could it do?""Oh, don't you get it? Miss Su is sparing our feelings! Someone who can easily afford millions in jewelry wouldn't stoop to appreciate this bottle.""Miss Su comes from a wealthy family. I bet she's used to drinking far finer vintages. I wonder if she's an expert in wine."

Voices buzzed with barely concealed intent to embarrass Su Wanwan.

No matter the wealth, she was still just a girl from the countryside, known only for buying luxury goods—what else but a nouveau riche?

Su Wanwan's voice rose slowly:"I don't recommend the 1982 Lafite. Personally, I believe Romanée-Conti surpasses it."

Most were ordinary office workers, unfamiliar with fine wines. Liang Yixing's eyes glinted with interest as he asked,"Which vintage do you recommend, Miss Su?""Ninety."

Liang Yixing turned to the waiter,"Bring a bottle of 1990."

The waiter apologized,"Sir, that vintage has an annual production of only about six thousand bottles. We have access to roughly ten.""If you want to purchase, there are two conditions.""First, you must hold our VIP Gold Card, awarded for spending over 880,000 yuan.""Second, you must correctly identify Romanée-Conti among five wines.""After all, wine is meant for connoisseurs."
