Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Emmiel

As Lopen and the rest of his employees got to work, I stared down at the blood stained floor not far off from my feet where Blith had died.

Moments when he pulled the trigger and the gun shot rang right infront of me replayed in my head like a loose screw.

"Emmiel" Lopen calls out, pulling my attention to him. "You seem quite shaken up"

And whose fault was that? "I'm fine"

"As Vassel had said earlier, there are no orders to tend to today so we can get going back home now"

Strolling beside Lopen, I followed him quietly as he exited the company. Climbing into his car, Lopen leans towards me to fasten my seat belt but I flinched at his close proximity to me.

He looked annoyed. "Are you scared of me, Emmiel?"

Lopen hates lies. How do I answer his question now? "I..I'm just shaken. I saw a man die infront of me"

"And he deserved it" Lopen strongly declares. "You have to get used to it because as my partner, you decide who gets to live and who dies if you can't pull the trigger"

Pulling away from me, he roughly commands. "Fasten up your seatbelt"

All buckled up, Lopen kick-starts the car off to a start to the mansion.

On getting home, Beta Davin stood outside. "Welcome, Alpha Lopen. Emmiel"

"Davin, it's unlike you to wait outside for my return" Lopen states. "What do you have to say?"

Davin's gaze shifts between I and Lopen. "Can I say it in the presence of Emmiel?"

"Why not?"

Davin takes in a deep breath. "I found out who sent the intruders"

My heart skipped in anticipation. Who was it? Could it have been Lopen's father? I understood that he hated me. Could that have been what Asai had been trying to warn us about?

While numerous scenarios were made up in my head, Lopen cut straight to the chase. "Who is it?"

"It was Alpha Gawin"

Alpha Gawin. This was my first time hearing that name.

"Alpha Gawin" Lopen repeats. "I see he intended to kidnap Emmiel because I refused to take his daughter, Jacqueline as my wife"

Jacqueline. That name rang a bell. Wait, could Alpha Gawin be the father of the lady Lopen's father wanted him to marry? Was that why he was after me?

"I ought to pay Gawin a visit, don't you think, Davin?" Lopen questions. "I should at least send him a 'thank you' for the surprise package"

A thank you. Surprise package. What did Lopen mean?

Lopen turns me to face him. "Come with me. I want to pay an old friend of my father's a visit"

I nod because it wasn't as though I had a choice.

"We'll walk" Lopen informs me. "Thank you for your hardwork, Davin"

"It's a pleasure to serve you, Lopen"

As we walked on, Lopen says. "Where I'm taking you to might be alot for you so I understand if you feel pressured or scared to take action while in there"

"So you don't need to say anything" Lopen continues. "Just go along with the flow with whatever I do"

Lopen was giving me the permission to say nothing. I was relieved to hear that but at what cost?

What exactly was he planning on doing? We came to a stop infront of a huge courtroom.

Keeping my questions at bay, we walked in. From outside, the building was shaped like a courtroom but on the inside, it was decorated just like every normal house.

What kind of person builds a house shaped like a courtroom.

"Alpha Lopen" A maid greets, running up to us. "I didn't know you'd be coming"

"That's because I thought to surprise Gawin a bit for old times sake" Lopen replies. "Is the minister around?"

Minister?

"Yes, he's just wrapping up some few tri—"

"Lopen!" A deep voice calls from across. My gaze follows the voice to find a man draped in a judge's outfit. "What a delightful surprise!"

Now I understood why his house was shaped like a courtroom. Alpha Gawin was the minister of justice.

"It's been a long time, Gawin" Lopen admits. "How was the trial?"

Gawin smirks. "A success just as always"

"That's good to hear" Lopen pushes me forward. "I wanted to introduce you to my wife; Emmiel. The person you tried to abduct because I refused to marry your daughter"

I froze at how loud and direct Lopen had said that.

Gawin appeared taken aback as well. "I-I don't understand what you mea—"

"Of course you don't. You'd rather play dumb than to admit to your own fault" Lopen tsked. "Some sort of minister you are. You should be stripped off your title right away"

"Lopen!"

"What? Are you still going to deny it?" Lopen pulls out a small, black SD card. "I have the evidence right here of when you were hiring those men. Go on, Gawin. Beg some more"

When did he secure that SD card? Really, Alpha Lopen was a scary man to crossover.

Gawin clenched his fist. "You ingrate! I did those all for you. Do you really want to be labelled as a gay Alpha? Your father is a good friend of mine so I'm trying to protect—"

"Don't give me that crap, Gawin" Lopen lets out a short laugh. "You're trying to protect me? That's not what you're doing. You're trying to sell your daughter to me so that you can have a taste of the power I possess"

"What? Is being the minster of justice not enough power for you?" Lopen probed further. "Or have you finally gotten sick of playing court in your home?"

"Lop-"

"I'm not done yet" Lopen informs. "I came here to repay the gift you sent me"

Horror masked over Gawin's face. "What do you mean by th—"

Gawin had barely been able to compete his sentence when a maid rushed in, screaming. "Alpha Gawin!"

"What is it?"

"It's lady Jacqueline" The maid responds. "She just fell off the roof"
