Ada stood by the kitchen doorway, arms crossed. "You dey chop my rice like say na your mama cook am."
Dimeji didn't flinch. "You left it in *my* fridge."
"Our fridge," she corrected, stepping closer. "We both dey pay rent here, remember?"
He looked at her, really looked this time. Not the usual annoyed glance, but like he was trying to figure her out.
"You know," he said slowly, "you're not as annoying as I thought."
She blinked. "That supposed to be compliment?"
"Take it however you like."
She shook her head, trying not to smile.
A loud clap of thunder shook the house.
Light went off.
She hissed. "NEPA don strike again. You get gen?"
He stood, walked to the window. "Inverter go carry us till morning, but… you okay with storms?"
Ada didn't answer immediately.
Truth was, she hated them.
"Not really," she said, voice softer now.
He paused. "You can sit in the living room if you want. I won't bite."
She nodded slowly and joined him on the couch.
Silence sat between them, but it wasn't tense. It was calm. Warm, even.
And for the first time since they met, it felt like maybe… just maybe… they weren't enemies after all.
