Chapter 3 - What Does It Mean to Be a Hardcore MC Veteran?

"Don't tell me… they actually made my last words into a modpack?"

The thought left Mo completely stunned.

This was just too crazy. If he'd known this was going to happen, he would have said a lot more before dying! Never mind the other mods, at the very least he should've asked for something like Equivalent Exchange before dying, right?

Standing there, hesitating for a moment, Mo eventually let out a helpless sigh. "Well, whatever. At least they didn't throw in something like 'Mountains and Chasms'."

Since Mo had awakened a Stand in the form of Steve — instead of turning into Steve himself — he could still multitask. It was just like playing the game: while Steve was busy chopping trees, Mo was free to think about how these mods would affect his future survival.

Mo was quite familiar with the Pam's HarvestCraft mod. He used to encounter it frequently when playing on servers. It basically added a whole bunch of new crops, kitchen tools, and food recipes — a fun little mod.

But for Mo, this wasn't exactly good news.

Because even though Pam's HarvestCraft added tons of new food recipes, it severely nerfed the saturation of basic vanilla food items.

The easier a food was to obtain — like potatoes, apples, carrots — the less hunger it would restore. Unless you were willing to spend a huge amount of time crafting Pam's kitchen equipment and then cook simple ingredients into gourmet meals, you were going to have a rough time.

And now the real problem was…

Mo couldn't remember any of Pam's crafting recipes at all!

If he were still inside a game, he could just pull up a guide. But now that he was literally living inside the Minecraft world, where the hell was he supposed to find a walkthrough?

Mo considered himself a normal person — aside from the commonly used vanilla crafting recipes, there was no way he could remember all the complex ones. After all, modpacks added thousands of recipes. If someone actually memorized all of them, they'd probably have something seriously wrong with their brain.

"Yeah… I definitely wasn't thinking straight."

Realizing that he had no way to look up recipes now, Mo felt his whole body go numb. "If I'd known, I would've at least asked for JEI or NEI before dying… even just the 'G' key crafting guide would've been fine..."

Though, truth be told, *Pam's HarvestCraft* wasn't the worst part.

Back when Mo played, he had been too lazy to bother with the mod anyway. He'd just gather a ton of potatoes — three baked potatoes couldn't fill you? Fine, eat ten!

The real headache was the other mods.

Like, for example, Avaritia.

Without a crafting guide, just the recipe for the *Infinity Catalyst* would be enough to drive Mo to an early grave.

While Mo was stressing over crafting lists, his Stand, Steve, had been faithfully chopping away at the trees. Since Steve chopped wood at in-game speeds, it didn't take long for his inventory to overflow.

Seeing that, Mo had no choice but to put aside his worries for now and start organizing the backpack.

After some time, Steve's inventory now contained about seven stacks of wood, half a stack of cobblestone, a few stone pickaxes, and… a ridiculous amount of fruits and vegetables from Pam's mod.

Meanwhile, night had fallen.

From within the forest, Mo could faintly hear low growls and the eerie *click-clack* of bones rattling together.

Hearing these sounds, Mo immediately realized what had happened: he had spent too much time spacing out, forgetting about the arrival of night. Monsters had already begun spawning all around him.

For newbies, the first night in the MC world could be pure hell.

Zombies hidden in the darkness seemed endless, skeleton archers could snipe you from the shadows, and don't even get started on the creepers — once they started hissing, the only thing waiting for you was a tragic explosion.

But that kind of miserable end only happened to beginners.

As for Mo...

Who was he?

A hardcore MC veteran! A walking human drill! The undisputed top war god of the server!

Ehem...

Ever heard of "Dig Three, Fill One"?

Seeing the shadowy silhouettes lurking in the woods around him, Mo didn't hesitate for even a second. He immediately controlled Steve to dig a three-block-deep hole on the spot, then stepped on Steve's shoulders and jumped in.

He had no choice — Minecraft blocks were a full meter by a meter, and while Steve could easily jump down three meters, Mo's body wasn't quite as capable.

But once he dropped in, the makeshift underground shelter was officially complete.

The whole process didn't even take ten seconds!

Of course, Mo wasn't planning to squeeze with Steve in such a tiny space all night. After sealing up the hole above their heads, he immediately controlled Steve to start expanding the space around them.

After digging for a while, they ended up with a rough underground base: about three meters tall, twelve meters long, and nine meters wide.

Mo had always been a practical person. Especially at this early survival stage, trying to build a fancy mansion while you're still naked was just asking for trouble. As far as he was concerned, carving out a quick underground shelter was more than enough.

The place was a bit chaotic — torches stuck everywhere, a crafting table, a few furnaces, and a couple of chests were set up to the left.

On the right side, Mo had laid down a 9x9 patch of dirt. He planned to turn it into a small underground farm and grow some potatoes for food.

After tidying up a little, Mo decided it was time to go mining.

From digging the basement earlier, he had accumulated a ton of cobblestone. He had also cooked a batch of charcoal in the furnace. Now Steve's backpack had four full stacks of torches and over a dozen stone pickaxes — he was totally ready for a serious mining session.

As for the rest of the inventory? It was basically stuffed full of Pam's fruits and veggies.

And that's the annoying thing about *Pam's HarvestCraft*.

At first glance, it looked like Mo had a huge stockpile of food. But each fruit or veggie only restored one hunger point, and there were so many different types that they took up tons of inventory space. Grapes, blueberries, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli — just a chaotic mess.

Mo couldn't help but wonder: was he mining, or going on a camping trip?

Shaking his head, Mo made Steve eat seven blueberries to refill his hunger bar, and then began digging his mine shaft.

Mo dug diagonally downward, planning to expand into a fishbone pattern once he got near bedrock. This way he could maximize efficiency, finding iron and even diamonds as early as possible.

But what he didn't expect was that after only about twenty digs, his stone pick suddenly swung into empty air.

A massive natural cave system appeared before him.

"Huh?"

Mo paused in surprise.

By the faint torchlight, he could vaguely see several iron ore veins inside the cavern.

Normally, exploring caves without any armor was an incredibly risky move — the darkness was full of monsters. For an unarmored Steve, it would be practically suicidal.

But Mo was an experienced miner. He knew what he was doing.

He first controlled Steve to place torches around to light up the cave. After scouting the general layout, he carefully moved in and started mining the iron ore.

Before long, Steve's backpack had half a stack of iron ore added to it.

Mo didn't get greedy. He immediately returned to the underground base to start smelting the iron. Soon after, he had forged a full set of iron armor, an iron sword, and even a shield — Steve was now armed to the teeth.

Finally, Mo let out a long breath.

Now, at least, he had some real ability to protect himself.

After controlling Steve to eat six bunches of grapes and two cucumbers to top off the hunger bar, Mo headed back into the depths of the world.

And it seemed Mo's luck was truly unbelievable.

After tunneling through the previous cave, intending to keep digging toward bedrock, he suddenly hit a mossy cobblestone block.

From beneath it, he could faintly hear the low groaning of monsters.

"…No way,"

Seeing this, Mo couldn't help but reveal an astonished expression.

"A dungeon?"
