Chapter 7 - Mentorship function

Liz put her sword away and approached James' unconscious body. She bent down and used her mana to scan his body, checking for an abnormalities and to make sure he wasn't injured. After seeing that he was ok, she picked him up and brought him back to his house, laying him on his bed to rest. Liz then headed for Faldon's pavillion at the top of the mountain.

"Master, something weird just happened with James. I was helping to guide him in sword practice but part way through he seemed to manifest a golden aura and his sword skills immediately changed from amature to seasoned. Not only that but he began to guide me and with his help I was able to fully form my level 1 Sword Intent."

"What! You've achieved level 1 Sword Intent?! How is that possible? You should only be able to gain elementary comprehension of laws before the Nascent Soul realm. Your connection to the world before gaining a Nascent soul is too shallow…yet you're syaing it's stregthened to level 1."

Liz then raised her hand and presented her Sword Intent for Faldon to see. Faldon's eyes widened as soon as he felt the sharpness in the Intent.

"Impossible…it really has reached level 1. Liz, you said he manifested a golden aura during your practice, has that ever happened before?"

"No master, though this was the first time we've sparred together."

Faldon then spread his divine sense to look at James. He saw him resting in his house, with no unusual auras or anything out of the ordinary.

'To be able to guide someone in comprehending an intent, there's no way it was the boy who did it, especially not while still being in the Mana Gathering realm. While I can't tell his exact level, I do know he has not yet established a foundation. Could this be another benefit of being blessed by the heavens? Maybe the Heavens were trying help him in his sword training and just the residual aura from Heavens' presence gave Liz the push she needed?'

Faldon not being able to figure it out, decided to put the matter aside for now and would try sparring with his second desciple in the future to see if he could see the aura appear as well.

The next morning…

James woke up feeling groggy.

'Huh? When did I return home? Last thing I remember, I was sparring with Liz trying to learn more about using a sword.'

Just then, a screeching headache assaulted James causing him to bend over in pain. What followed were images of him swinging the sword but unlike his usual swings, these were made with perfect form. His sword also seemed to glow with some kind of grey aura. When he saw the aura, one word came into his mind, Intent.

Congratulations Host for guiding a cultivator in their comprehension.

Unlocking the Mentorship function.

James' headache soon calmed down giving him some time to catch up on everything happening. First was the painful visions of himself practicing the sword. Then he had unlocked a new sustem function.

'Open Mentorship'

*Ding*

A displayed screen appeared before James' eyes.

Current Session

Previous Session

James observed the 2 buttons and selected Current Session.

Current Session

Mentor: James (auto assigned)

Trainee: Liz (auto assigned)

Session Topic: Sword comprehension

Trainee Result:

Elementary Sword Intent -> Sword Intent level 1

Mentor Result:

+ Basic Sword Technique (Perfect form)

+ Elementary Sword Intent

'So that's what happened! The splitting headache was from the system giving me not only a new technique but also this Elementary Sword Intent. I guess the pain was due to the sheer amount of knowledge and experience the system needed to give me to supplement my originally crappy sword skills.'

James then went back to the first Mentorship function screen and selected Current Session.

'Hmm well I guess I'll need to try and register Liz or master the next time I have a training session with them. If i'm able to increase my skills this dramatically every training session, I can't imagine how strong i'll be a month from now.'

James then decided to look at his Profile to see where he was at.

'My Physical stat has been slowly increasing over the years but nothing else really has. My other stats will probably need to wait until I reach the Foundation Establishment realm. The new sword technique has been added and a new section for Intent. Makes me think about what other Intents I could comprehend.'

James got up, took a bath, ate some breakfast and then headed over to Liz's house to talk to her about what happened yesterday. James walked up and knocked on her door. Soon, the door opened and there stood Liz beautiful as ever but with a complicated expression on her face that he'd never seen her make before.

"Hi Senior sister, sorry about yesterday, I guess I was more tired than I thought"

James said as he scratched the back of his head.

"Junior brother, before you passe dout yesterday, your body was covered with a golden glow, do you have any idea what that was?"

Liz asked this while giving him a suspicious look as if trying to find any lies.

'Golden glow? Could that have been the system? Since it showed up when the Mentorship session was happening it's was probably the system. But that begs the wuestion, why did it make me pass out? Could it be because Liz is 2 major cultivation realms higher than me?'

"Sorry Senior sister, i'm not sure what that glow was, all I remember is us sparring and the next thing I know I woke up in my house this morning."

James had his theories but since he didn't know for sure, saying he didn't know wouldn't really count as lying.

"Alright well I spoke with Master about it and he asked for you to go see him when you get a chance. Also don't forget that you're suppose to join the other young disciples later for their lecture. Oh and one more thing, thank you."

When Liz thanked him, she gave a smile so radiant that it made James freeze for a moment. He'd always thought that she was a beautiful girl but this was the first time his heart began to race.

'Am I getting my first crush in this life?'

After speaking, Liz closed the door and returned to her cultivation. James came back to his senses a minute later. He turned around and went to talk to his master.
