Chapter 5 - Trunk, and caffeine

Satoya was walking on the side of the street, looking at a map on his phone. "It'll take me an hour or two, but I'd preferably not want them to be worried, but, if I became a Regulator, will this nervousness go away?"

Satoya was never someone who would do something this bold. During high school, he was usually seen as a rather quiet person, although he was known to be quite funny if you knew him, he always seemed 'sad' if you call it that. Unlike the rest of the group, otherwise known as during high school, "The Satoya gang." He didn't have any redeeming quality, considering he was one of those generic well behaved students.

Satoya started reminiscing about his high school years, although he graduated last year. But the one thing he kept thinking about before and after his graduation, was the simple question of, "what is your goal?" Despite that question being asked quite literally every year from 1st to his 4th year, he'd always hate that question. Aside from that, unlike his friends, he was somewhat below average. He never had the intelligence, the athleticism, the charisma, nor even the boldness to do anything.

While he was reminiscing, a car stopped beside him. Out of curiosity, he shifted his gaze toward the window, debating whether he was in trouble or the car stopped next to him out of coincidence.

The window of the front passenger seat slowly descended, with Johnathan, who was wearing sunglasses looking at him calmly. "Get in." He nonchalantly spoke, with him shaking his head gesturing to get in. Satoya took a short glance at everyone in the car. Rayna was patiently waiting in the driver's seat, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel, Isaac sitting in the passenger seat, and Edward sitting in the middle between the two passenger seats.

"Uh… Okay?"

He opened the back passenger seat door, and sat next to Edward, who had his arms crossed, his eyebrows twitching. The engine started running, Rayna proceeded to press on the tablet of the car, and an AI began to give out directions to the nearest Regulator's Committee headquarter.

Every capital's 3 countries have a Regulator's committee headquarter, but the location of it is in the main city of that country, or what some people refer to as the 'Country capital.'

"So why the f*** Am I sitting here?" Edward shouted, his arms raised in defiance. Rayna took a short glance at the rear-view mirror, then sighed. "Well, it's not my fault you're 164."

"164…?"

"Oh! For f***s sake, five–foot–four!"

While this… uhm.. Scuffle was happening, Satoya was staring through the window, his arm rested on the door, his head on his hand. He started reflecting, or well, got lost in thought while enjoying the view.

Surprised Edward's the one Rayna is arguing with, but I guess someone gotta spark up something when Isaac's asleep. Aside from that, holy hell, why does Johnathan keep blasting music into his ears with his headphones? Isn't that a hazard?

Satoya turned his head to the interior of the car, looking at everyone. However, a thought came to mind..

"Where's Shizune? Did you leave her at the cafe?" Satoya raised an eyebrow, and before Rayna or Edward could answer, he heard a groan from behind him in the trunk. He then saw Shizune slumped behind Edward from the trunk. Her arms rested over the seat, she attempted to speak before she grimaced, and flicked the back of Edward's head, while saying "you smell."

"I just showered last night!"

Satoya, who saw the scene unfold after he asked the question of Shizune's whereabouts, turned his head to the rear-view mirror. "Why'd you put her in the trunk?"

"She didn't complain, so like, why not? You needed a seat anyway."

"O-oh… Thanks, I guess?"

They drove for a couple of minutes, eventually driving up a large hill, then, Satoya was dropped off in front of a large building. Satoya slowly walked through the automated glass doors, and saw how empty it was.

"2nd largest organization in the world my ass."

He started walking toward the receptionists, as of the time, there were only 2 receptionists. They were both women, with one of them seemingly in a good mood, and the other, she seemed, rather.. Grumpy..

The actual headquarter or well, the receptionist lobby, for some odd reason, appeared to exactly look like a hotel. The white light reflecting from the marble floor, well kept plants that seemed to have just bloomed and an extremely expensive looking glass chandelier that is suspended over the center of the lobby. Some people were already taking a seat on the sofas, these people are Regulators, who are according to a guideline of the Regulator's Committee, wearing a dark suit, with a white shirt underneath, which strangely enough, is exactly the same outfit salarymen often wear.

Regardless, Satoya approached the receptionist, who seemed to be taking a sip out of a steaming cup of coffee. She had glasses, with messy red hair, and also seemed to be severely lacking sleep, considering she has eyebags and had multiple empty cups that he assumed to have formerly contained coffee aside her. Satoya took a short glance at her ID card lanyard, that was labelled:

Ailayn Sokolov

Regulator's Committee, 1st Capital – Rieaumaius

Employee – Receptionist.

"Uh, welcome to the…ahh damn it.. right.. Ahem… Regulators Committee for Rieamaius…" Ailayn spoke, her voice was droopy and exhausted. "Ok God damn, how much caffeine is she consuming? That'll probably kill a Nebulaian child.." Satoya thought.

"Oh yeah, she usually complains about her insomnia, but that can't really be helped when you are drinking 12 cups of coffee a day," The receptionist next to Ailayn made a slight chuckle. The receptionist who made that comment, had short black hair, with a silver necklace, as well as a ID card lanyard that said:

Layla Smithfield

Regulator's Committee, 1st capital – Rieamaius

Employee – Receptionist.

"I'll help you instead, so what's your purpose here?" She asked kindly with a smile.

"I'd like to become a Regulator."

"Alright, so feel free to–" Layla was interrupted as she tried to finish her sentence.

"No point in making him do that test." A serious, cold hearted spoke. Layla instinctively looked at who spoke.

Satoya slowly turned, feeling a heavy presence in the air. The man before him had black hair that seemed to fade into a darker blue tint, with his dark eyes piercing through Satoya's own soul. He wore an black trench coat that seemed to have plated shoulders, which he found odd. He also had a sheathed sword, the guard of the sword looking noble-like.
