Chapter 5 - Hope

Argh! Max groaned, his eyes slowly fluttering open. A sharp pain assaulted his head recalling the previous events. Making a deep frown form to his face.

S-silas. He stuttered in anger a series of emotion overwhelming him.

Since little Silas was the only best friend he had. Being antisocial and a bit paranoid they were a perfect fit for each other.

Having each other's back and doing most stuff together. Hell! Some even called them brothers due to how close they were.

But all of that changed in the blink of an eye. The plausible reason being greed, all for what?

Turning max was about getting revenge for himself but stopped feeling something drop on his hand.

Rain? It was no doubt a single drop of water but with a twist. Not only was it hot and sizzling but it also made a small hole to max skin.

Thud thud thud.

Light thuds resounded as more of this strange rain droplets landed to the ground. Making the weird sizzling noise.

Taking cover on the second and last floor of an abandoned building max looked up to the sky. Seeing it's clouds darker than normal overfull with this strange rain about to be released.

T-this isn't rain. Looking closer max could see this droplets were green in contrast to the normal crystal clear water colour. Making his face go pale realizing what it was.

It's acid. He gulped stunned. He couldn't comprehend how this was even scientifically possible. But if this was acid then humanity was screwed.

M-mom, yuki! Remembering his mother and sister were still in that detoriating hut made his heart skin. If truly this was acid then it was better to be prepared for the worst.

Now some houses made of strong materials with block molecular structures could withstand some level of damage from the acid. So the better the quality of the house the safer you were for the meantime.

Back at the capital city reporters were already live on air speaking about the strange dark cloud.

Celine! Where have you been. A bald man puffing a cigar exclaimed. Letting out a sigh of relief seeing the figure approaching.

Mostly shopping. Celine, the hot beauty with brunette hair wearing a killer red dress casually replied. Not responding the chubby man who's also her boss eyes twitched.

The obvious question on his mind was how she had the time to shop during all this ruckus.

It doesn't matter, prep her up we go live in 5 minutes. He ordered as a group of trained team attended to Celine.

And is the world coming to an end or a beginning of new life. Kate her assistant read out loud holding a white paper.

Yeah yeah.. I got it. Grabbing the paper she tossed it away elegantly walking an taking a seat at the square desk.

Alright Celine we go in 5..

Welcome to LBC. Am your host as always Celine Rodriguez here with breaking news. A strange occurrence has been looming over lutharion for the past two days. Some depicting it to be a heavy storm while some an invasion. She paused a stern yet soft look plastered to her face.

Invasion, ha another conspiracy theory. A business man sighed. Hearing enough of such sightings.

Again with the aliens.. come on people grow up! A woman frowned.

Haha! I knew it! I knew I was right but y'all didn't believe me. It's coming I tell ya, the end of the world. A bigger hysterically laughed jumping in joy. Making the group of people besides him pull out.

...….

Now scientists haven't been able to tell us for sure what that strange stowm is. Celine continued in a soft tone.

But it's strongly advised to remain indoors for the next few days until a solution is found. Safety measures are already being put into play so please cooperate with your area dispatched officers.

What the hell! Now we're being caged like an animal.

Yeah.. this just another government scheme to extort, like always.

Damn it, just when I got a date.

Several murmers and talks erupted from the citizens of lutharion hearing Celine. Voicing their opinions of dissatisfaction and mainly anger. Watching her across the countless screens on buildings, TV's, phones etc.

Some atheist are calling this the end of the world and I know this might be tough for some of us but we'll face this together. As always I remain your host, Celine Rodriguez reporting out.

Beautiful just beautiful Celine, you're a natural! Several cheers and applaud erupted all to which she ignored. Already used to.

Seriously bob, aliens? She sarcastically spoke not believing that crap.

Well, you know what they say.. the good lies don't hurt no one. The chubby bald man chuckled lighting another cigarette.

Yeah.. and they also said too much of everything will kill you. With that she got up proceeding to the dressing room.

...….

I have to go-

Rumble!

He didn't finish his words when a ground shaking earthquake occured. Rattling the house a bit shifting him off balance to the floor.

Regaining himself he tried running home but luck wasn't on his side.

Crack!

A huge colourful lightning flashed in the sky dazzling max.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Several rained droplets poured down on lutharion like bullets. Taking everyone off guard.

No no no.. max muttered with a pale face. He'd thought he could beat the rain but unfortunately he was still human.

Please be rain. He silently prayed looking out the window. The water droplets were still green and evaporating smokes wherever it landed.

So max couldn't be sure yet if it was truly acid as there were times lutharion's atmosphere got really hot. Even affecting the water and other things.

Growl! A loud growl pulled him from his thoughts. Looking he could see a dog caught up in the rain. It's movement were sluggish and predictable.

What's wrong with it? Max wondered observing the dog. He could tell the green rain wasn't peeling the animal skin. At least not fast but at a very slow rate. Making him heave a sigh of relief.

Mom and yuki should be fine until the rain passes. He hoped knowing their house wasn't in the best condition. But still able to withstand some this rain for a while.

I have to help him. Rushing down he opened the door for the wounded dog.

Mhm. It winced in pain with every step approaching max. Now closer max got a better look at it.

Oh no. At first he'd thought the dog's fur was very dark. But now he could see it was infact it's skin melted and stuck to it's flesh. Potruding a foul rotten stench mixed with iron.

Am sorry.. he sighed knowing he couldn't save the dog. Locking the door he stared out the window in attempt to block the dog's cries.

Just what's happening.. he frowned seeing the world in chaos. He mostly heard stories of the world ending along with calamities in stories. But for the first time he was experiencing this.

...…..

Damn it! Jane yelled in frustration slamming her hand to the desk. Raising her head a bit to the three large screen in front. Displaying countless red dots followed by the blaring alarm noises.

Y-yes prime minister. We're still unsure of what's happening, it's best we hope for the best and just wait and see. Jin softly spoke to the other end of the phone. Ending the call he let out a weak sigh calmly walking over to Jane.

Hey.. it's alright. Jin softly said placing a hand to her shoulder. He could tell she felt guilty about this situation. Being the lead scientist of lutharion it was her duty to prevent such.

I failed. Jane stuttered her emotions getting the better of her.

And you're still human. We make mistakes and we learn from them. That's what makes us better species. Jin uttered. Being the president and leader of lutharion he was meant to rule with an iron fist. But he didn't, instead having a more carefree and calm attitude.

Y-you're right. Thank you jin.

Haha! Don't mention it.

...

It's been 30 minutes. Max grimly uttered staring out the window. Sturdy structures made from quality materials were visible affected by this acid rain. Making him wonder the condition of the one's in lesser quality.

Damn it, I can't wait any longer. Frustrated he decided to head home. Finding some thick covers he placed them over his head.

His plan was simple run like crazy! With the thick covers and short distance home he plaused he should arrive before the acid completely disintegrated the thick covers.

Here goes nothing. Taking a deep breath he prepared himself for the race of a lifetime. But as soon as he took the first step the unpredictable happened.

It stopped? His eyes widened in shock seeing the strange rain abruptly come to a halt.
