Chapter 4 - Acidic rain

A fleet of about 7 SUV's stormed through the roads of lutharion in a straight line. Bypassing traffic lights and making their way through the made out space by armed officers.

We're almost there, President Jin. An older man in his late 60's said. Looking at the rearview mirror staring at the figure seated in back.

Nodding Jin let out a small sigh continuing on reading the newspaper in his hands.

Emotional support for president Jin. He inwardly read the headlines. Making a vein appear on the side of his head.

Since his father passed being the only child he was bound to take control over the military. Though he wasn't on with the idea but the world needed him.

Now one would've expected him to hace his father's traits. Ruthless, strategic and ruling with an iron hand. but he was none of that instead the opposite.

Which had led to many constructive criticism and backlashes. Faced with many debates about relinquishing the post for someone more competent.

Fools, they never learn. Jin smiled unfazed by the trolls gunning at him. Staring out the window the world seemed to slow down.

Dozens of people of high and low classes alike moving along going about their daily businesses. Several commercials are being advertised on billboards.

Why can't they see what I see? A light sigh escaped his mouth. Shaking his head he stared forward countless thoughts crossing through his mind.

Could you turn down the AC Thomas. Jin said, shivering a bit.

A-am sorry sir but the air conditioner isn't on. The old man stuttered, making Jin's eyes widen a bit.

If the AC isn't on then how am I this cold. Normally lutharion got really cold sometimes during certain seasons. But still, the cold was still environment friendly. Unlike this strange cold that had been brewing since yesterday.

Could it be? Nah.. it's just the weather. Jin shrugged, refusing to believe whatever storm building was the cause of this unexpected change.

Driving an hour more the 7 black SUV's then made their way far out the capital city. Only sand stretching across the plain barren desert.

We're here. In front a huge factory could be seen. Equipped with 5 steel reinforced gates guarded by armed guards.

President Jin. It's an honor to have you. A young female guard saluted to which Jin casually waved.

Gesturing with her hand the first gate then opened along the rest four. Allowing the official cars permission without any hindrance. Reaching the compound the cars parked in front of the entrance to the factory.

Park the car and wait inside. Seems like we'll be staying here a while. Jin ordered, to which Thomas nodded.

Going past the armed guards, Jin made his way into the reception of this elaborate facility.

It's a pleasure to have you here president Jin. The secretary bowed. She was quite younger than Jin dressed in the casual office wear.

You're too kind. He smiled heading over to the elevator. The dozen guards formed a rectangular shield around him.

B30. He sighed, pressing the number with the lift closing. Being the highest number one would've expected the lift to go up. But instead it went the opposite.

Surprisingly smooth and steadily defying the laws of gravity and momentum.

Ding! The elevator sounded arriving at no less than 16 meters underground. Calmly walking out he was he in an entire different section. Unlike the peaceful and grand setting the reception had. This place was nothing like it.

It was spacious and grand equivalent to 10× worth the reception. But not in the peaceful and serene way one would've expected.

Several giant cubes containing different animals with wires strapped to them stood tall. Operated by personnel dressed in white lab coats. Tubes containing strange liquids of different colours were also present. Along with other bizzare things that should never be mentioned.

Chaos as always. A light grin tugged at Jin's lip. He was unfazed by all this chaos already used to it. Shaking his head he calmly made his way to a particular location.

Jane! He called out with a bright smile which didn't look deceiving as planned.

There in front operating on what looked like a robotic wolf was a woman. She looked to be in her prime 30's with red curly hair wearing an overall lab coat and transparent glasses.

Turning she had a frown on her face seeing jin.

Judging you're here I am betting sir beru must've paid you a visit. She plainly said without any emotion.

I wouldn't call it a visit but yes, we've met. Jin replied, taking a seat on the table besides Jane.

I didn't think the situation of the world would be enough to catch your attention. She scoffed, continuing on with whatever she was doing.

Haha.. please, I am more concerned about lutharion than anyone. Jin chuckled, earning an awkward glare from Jane.

That isn't what the newspaper says. She uttered walking away, making Jin's eye widen a bit.

Wait up! Tailing behind her he ordered his guards to remain here. While they took yet another lift going downwards arriving at a cave like structure. With three giant sized 120 inch tv displaying the same holographic feed.

So, what's going on? Jin calmly asked, staring at the screen. He wasn't the brightest in school but he could tell that wasn't a normal storm.

According to our reports there seems to be some sort of static storm building above the Earth's geosphere. Jane said, making a frown form on Jin's face.

By static you mean electricity? He asked to which she nodded.

Though tests are still being carried out there are many speculations as to how this is possible. She paused, hesitant to continue.

Well we don't have much time so might as well come out.

The main and plausible reason is planet evolution. Though it's just a hunch it can't be ignored lutharion is self evolving faster than we can comprehend. From scorching deserts to blizzard storms and so on. It's possible this is another change. She said but judging by the worried expression on her face Jin could tell there was something else.

And?

Well, while it's true this might be another unprecedented occurrence lutharion is undergoing. There's also the possibility of an extra force having a hand.

By extra force you mean aliens. Great.. Jin scowled not buying the idea aliens were responsible for the storm building up above lutharions surface.

Jeez.. and they say am childish.

I know you may think it's silly and just myths but there are items and sightings of extraterrestrials. Jane said pointing at some layed out items on a desk.

All I see are your weird inventions. Jin shrugged making Jane frown more.

And all I see is a child playing a man's game! She retorded. It's true you'll never be like your father.

Just as the tension grew so did the ringing alarm blaring in the silence.

Miss Jane! A chubby guy wearing googles rushed over holding a tab.

What!?

T-the readings.. the storm is absorbing the Earth's air faster than we predicted. He stuttered making Jane's face go pale.

Jane, w-what is he talking about about? Did he just say that thing's sucking our air? Jin frowned not aware of this. First they had to worry of a lightning storm getting larger by the second above them. And now their air was also being drained?

He's correct. Our air is being sucked into that giant hole up their. It started slowly but it has spiked for some reason. She grimly spoke clenching her fist. And for the first time Jin could see fear in the eyes of this independent genius.

Prepare the antimatter cannons. If we can create a separation at the outer layer of lutharion then we can stop it from stealing our air.

Nodding the all mounted to their stations. Some furiously clanking away at their keyboard while others hurriedly made some calls.

This is much worse than I thought. Jin thought seeing they had far more bigger problems at hand.

Meanwhile in space two giant thrusters with the military crest floated downwards. Guided by their dual thrusters to lutharion's ozone layer. Without hesitation they fired off translucent beams polluting the sky with a static hum.

Filling the already thick clouds which soon released it's downpour to lutharion.

Antimatter beams have successfully been deployed. Atmosphere is stabilizing. The chubby guy from earlier blurted out.

Phew now we- her words were cut short when yet another much louder alarm blared

Shit! Jane frowned her eyes contradicting.

What is it, did it work? Jin impatiently asked being positive.

N-no. Apparently the beams from the antimatter rays was supposed to create a barrier separating lutharion's atmosphere from the storm.

So didn't it do that.

Unfortunately it caused a loop surging the air drainage and mixing with the rain causing a molecular catastrophe.

English woman! Jin frowned not understanding any of what she meant.

It's raining acid. She blurted out making Jin's eye widen in shock.
