Chapter 7 - Episode 7: Flames of Farewell

3 AC – Moon of Mourning

Dragonstone stood solemn as the Targaryen family gathered once more — not for council, but for grief. The sea whispered below, and the skies held the weight of sorrow. Prince Aemon was to be laid to rest in the ancient tradition of fire.

 Grief Unites and Reveals

The funeral of Prince Aemon draws scattered family members back to Dragonstone. As the pyre is built, old wounds resurface, alliances are tested, and the weight of legacy presses down on every heart.

The Arrival of the Family

One by one, dragons crossed the sky, bringing their riders to mourn. Among the arrivals:

Queen Alysanne Targaryen and her dragon Silverwing

Baelon Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar

Viserys I Targaryen, son of Baelon, did not arrive atop Balerion — the great beast was too frail to fly. It is said that Balerion's final flight had already passed, taken to glimpse Aenarion once, before the dragon laid down to die in the dark of the Dragonpit.

Vaegon, the scholarly and reclusive son of Jaehaerys, appears cold but deeply shaken.

Daemon Targaryen, son of Baelon

Maegelle Targaryen, gentle and devout, prays silently for her fallen brother.

Aemma Arryn, wife of Viserys I Targaryen

Gael Targaryen, the youngest daughter of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne, clings to her mother's side with wide, tearful eyes, sensing the heaviness of the moment even in her youth.

The only absence among the king's living children and grandchildren is Saera Targaryen, still exiled.

The courtyards of Dragonstone fill with the flicker of torches and the murmur of Valyrian tongues.

Rhaenys and Jocelyn United

Rhaenys and Jocelyn, both touched by Aemon's death, find strength in each other. United by grief and their love for Laena, they become each other's quiet support. Their shared loss forges a bond that transcends bloodlines — one forged in fire and shadow.

Aegon and the Fire

Aegon, still only five, watches everything with sharpened eyes. He stands close to the flames, feeling the heat not only on his skin but deep within his chest. Aenarion flies silently overhead, sensing the solemnity of the moment. As Aegon watches his father burn, he begins to understand what it truly means to carry a legacy — and a burden.

Discourses and Silences

Baelon speaks with a heavy heart, his voice breaking as he honors his brother's courage and sacrifice. Then, with solemn resolve, he mounts Vhagar and commands her to release her flame. The great dragon's fire ignites the pyre, bathing Aemon's body in a final blaze of glory. The silence that follows is even louder. King Jaehaerys does not speak. He merely watches as the fire consumes his son, his expression unreadable.

In the shadows, Queen Alysanne draws Gael close. Jocelyn Baratheon weeps quietly, holding Laena, whispering lullabies to soothe them both.

In the cradle beside Laena, the pale, sapphire-speckled egg that once belonged to Dreamfyre cracked open — revealing a hatchling with eyes like burning skies and scales that shimmered like moonlit sea. The newborn dragon screamed into the storm outside, and the blood of old Valyria stirred again on Dragonstone.

As the flames climb, their reflections dance across Aegon's face. The boy looks skyward — where Aenarion hovers, a silent sentinel — and clenches his small fist.

The storm was no longer something to survive. It was something to master.
