Looking out over the motorway, Shifa sat quietly at the passengers' side appreciating the stars.
"So you were going to tell me where we're going, aren't we?"
" We're meeting a reporter. She has something I want."
"And that would be"
"Information"
After feeling like she had made progress, this development made her nervous and suspicious. There was clearly something else going on here.
"What do they have on you? "You can't lie to me as a ghost. I can tell when people are lying or not" She hoped the bluff might make Evan open up to her more, although after promising to be honest to herself, she wondered if this might backfire.
At this, Evan laughed. "Can you really or are you just trying to be nosy?"
"And are you trying to divert the conversation away?" Shifa countered.
"It's none of your business"
"I'm literally a ghost, and you want to try hiding things from me"
"It's called privacy"
"No, you're being suspicious. Whatever I'll find out when we get there"
Looking at the ghost, Evan wondered if this was the right choice. This could backfire in a awful way; if so, then he would never be able to get rid of the ghost.
Reaching their destination, it turned out to be a retail park.
They then both got out of the car as Evan made his way to a fish and chips restaurant.
Inside, the aroma of meat instantly hit as chefs scraped away meat by turning on their skewers.
Walking towards the end of the shop, an Asian woman sat there as she looked at her watch impatiently. Looking around, she caught Evan and signaled to him that it was her.
The woman's name was Phoebe, and she was a reporter for a small newspaper who was currently facing what looked like its end. Due to the existence of social media, many newspaper companies have gone online with the ones that weren't slowly dying out. The company Phoebe worked for was the latter.
Putting out her hand, she spoke "Hello, It's nice to meet you. Please call me Phoebe."
"Evan" he put out his hand to shake hers once again, putting on his robotic face as if he were in a meeting.
"So Evan I would like to get straight to the point."
"I would appreciate that", interrupting Phoebe in an attempt to gain an advantage. For him, a conversation was a war. The best wars weren't the long, hard-fought ones but the ones that ended as quickly as they started.
"I don't want anything. Nothing you can say or do will stop me from publishing the article."
"Then why meet with me? Why bother with this?"
"To show you that I can't be bullied or gotten rid of. I have a friend. If something happens to me and I don't notify them within 24 hours, the article will be released and with it the end of your company."
"Your family, how have they been doing lately?"
At this, Phoebe smiled. "They're well protected. You don't need to worry."
Shifa who had been watching this entire conversation in disbelief. Sat staring right at Evan from the side in an attempt to make her feelings known about this entire situation. After saying her purpose for appearing in front of Evan, the first thing he did was do something almost certainly illegal.
"I know that they and you have been working very hard in an attempt to let them retire. Let me help you."
"Don't need it, but thank you for the offer."
Getting up, Phoebe strode off, not letting Evan get in another word.
Of course, from here you would think that Evan would be in despair as the threat to his company couldn't be stopped, but Evan had learnt something in that conversation.
Whoever had given her the info on the company must have been working for the company, otherwise how else did they get access until now Evan had put aside that piece, as he had many employees and they were not the priority.
But with this, Evan knew who had leaked the information.
"Oi what's going on? Stop ignoring me."
But Evan was in the flow and had no time to waste as he got up from his feet and left the shop.
Entering the car, Evan stabbed his keys into the ignition, locking himself in. He drove as fast as he could. Driving like a complete madman, if anyone but a ghost was in that car they would have probably vomited by now or at the least felt very sick from the constant shaking as Evan's hand jittered on the steering wheel.
Evan, while not old, was someone who could be mistaken for old as even his body was in decline, his hands jittering in high adrenaline situations.
Arriving at the apartment building, Evan didn't bother getting in the elevator.
He entered the staircase, energy apparently abundant as he bounded two steps at a time up the steps.
Finally, Evan arrived at his destination as he stopped for a second to take a breather.
He then approached one of the doors of the apartment, knocking on it three times in a loud way that almost seemed like he was trying to break it down, not knock on it.
Luckily, it only took a few seconds before the door started opening.
"Yes, what do you want?" the owner of the door said, annoyed at the loud knocking.
As the door fully opened, Evan's brother Jonathon appeared.
