I woke up to the noise around me—different kinds of noise. I opened my eyes, and the first people I saw were Jad and Reina. They were discussing something I didn't understand. They were raising their voices, but somehow it felt normal. They always do that. Funny thing is, they weren't fighting or anything.
"Can't you just listen to me for once?" Reina said in a high-pitched tone.
"Why would I? And besides, she doesn't care what color her bedside flowers are going to be," Jad replied defensively.
Who's "she"? I wondered.
"How do you know?"
"Duh. She's my cousin, I know her from head to toe" so I am "she" they were talking about me.
I slowly moved. My head ached like hell—I didn't know why.
"Mary? Guys, stop look," Micah said, making the other two turn to me. She was the first to notice I am awake.
"Ouch." I held my head as Jade and Micah helped me sit up.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt? Where? Do I need to call a doctor?" Micah asked in a worried tone.
"No, it's just a headache."
"Maybe you should get checked. Reina, call someone," Jad said, and Reina was about to turn away, but I stopped her, forcing myself to act like I was okay—because I really am.
"You don't look okay, Mary," Micah insisted.
"How long was I asleep?" I asked.
"Three," Jad said simply.
"Three hours? It felt so long." I sighed and looked at them. They looked... off. "Why? What's wrong?"
"Mary... it's three days." I am stop from what Micah have just said.
What? I slept for three days?
"Wha–what happened?"
"I don't know… What did happen, Mary? You used magior—I thought you couldn't."
"Yeah right, Mary. How is it possible to use magior without special abilities" Reina come closer.
"I was shocked too. I... I don't know what happened. It's like it all just happened, and I don't even know why. All my life, I thought I couldn't. But that night... everything felt different."
I tried my best to remember what happened that night—and the night before—but trying only made my head hurt more.
"All I remember is... the moment I got on stage, I could no longer control my body."I was pulling at my hair, trying to force the memories back.
"Mary, stop. Don't push yourself. By the way, someone dropped by earlier. We don't know who, but the note said it was someone you knew from the show," Reina said, handing me a bottle of coffee. It had a note on it. I only knew one person from the night of the show—that RJ boy. He gave me the same bottle that night.
"Did you meet or talk to anyone backstage, Amy?"
"Yeah. I guess this came from him..."
"Him? Who's him?" Jade asked curiously.
"He's—" I was cut off when someone barged through the door.
My uncle.
"Dad—"
"So you're already awake, huh? Do you even know what you've done?" Uncle Greg said, his voice cold. I was confused. My friends tried to stop him, asking him to let me rest first since I had just woken up.
"Dad, can't you wait until later? Don't you see Mary's still processing everything?"
"Shut up, Jad. And all of you—leave us alone for a moment," my uncle demanded.
As much as they wanted to stay, they had to listen. I didn't want Uncle to be mad at them or punish them for not following his orders, so I signaled them to go. They did.
Once the door closed, I looked my uncle straight in the eyes.
"I don't know what happened uncle I can't remember... can you remind me?"
"You've changed our school... and our family."
