Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Anna Sisters’ Death Case

The Anna Sisters' Death Case, a sensational unsolved case from three years ago in Fontaine, is still occasionally brought up even now.

Anna and Annie, twin sisters who were only ten years old, were the apple of the eye of their family's maid, Diana.

On the day of the celebration, Diana's employer, Madam Bella, invited all the household employees and their family members to be guests at her home.

During the party, Annie inadvertently revealed a shocking secret—she had witnessed a murder.

However, due to her young age at the time, she did not realize it was a bloody crime.

After the party, people were horrified to discover that Annie had drowned in the garden's pool.

The Maison Gardiennage intervened to investigate immediately.

The very next morning after Annie's death, her sister Anna also died mysteriously.

She was found hanged on an old tree in the garden, and all indications seemed to point to suicide.

The investigation into this case immediately reached a standstill.

Despite the detectives' best efforts to find clues and sort out the case, they were unable to find any valuable evidence to reveal the truth of this tragedy.

The mystery of the Anna sisters' deaths thus became an unsolved enigma in the city of Fontaine, remaining unresolved.

Lin Yide watched Furina, whose eyes were darting around uncertainly, and a sense of inexplicable frustration welled up in his heart. "Do you think I can investigate the truth of a three-year-old case?"

Furina hesitated for a moment, her voice a little weak: "You… you should be able to, right? After all, you won against me in the trial."

Lin Yide was too lazy to waste any more words with her; right now, he could only solve this case.

"Come with me," he said briefly, then turned and walked out of the room.

Furina was stunned. "Where to?" she blurted out.

But Lin Yide didn't answer her, just leaving behind the words "Guess?" and continued forward.

Furina stamped her feet in anger, but still reluctantly followed his footsteps.

The two passed through the bustling streets of Fontaine and finally arrived in front of a magnificent building.

Furina looked at the familiar scene before her and said confidently, "Yide, we've come to the Maison Gardiennage to find the case files from back then, right?"

"Heh," Lin Yide laughed, his laughter full of mockery.

This made Furina feel very uncomfortable.

He didn't directly answer Furina's question, but instead slowly walked towards the Melusine who was diligently sweeping the floor in front of the door.

He greeted her politely: "Hello, Agent Ebel. I am Yide, the head of the secret agent organization under Lady Furina."

Ebel heard the voice, put down the broom in her hand, and looked up at Lin Yide.

Her eyes revealed a hint of curiosity and doubt. "Hello, Mr. Yide. Is there anything I can do for you?"

"It's like this, as far as I know, you've always been ostracized in the Maison Gardiennage and despite having extraordinary talent, you've been buried all along," Lin Yide said with heartfelt pain. "So, I would like to invite you to officially join the West Factory and give full play to your talents."

These words stunned Ebel; she had never thought that anyone would value her so much.

The excitement in her heart surged like a tide, but along with it came a trace of doubt—she had never heard of the West Factory organization.

Lin Yide keenly noticed her hesitation. He turned around and pointed to Furina in the distance: "Look, Lady Furina is also supporting us. She is our strong backing."

Seeing this, Furina immediately straightened her back and struck a pose that she thought was very handsome.

Ebel no longer had any concerns in her heart. "Okay, Chief Yide, I'll go back and resign right away," she said, and she really was about to walk back.

"Wait!" Lin Yide quickly stopped her. "I have something else I need your help with."

Ebel stopped her steps and asked curiously, "What is it?"

Lin Yide said, "It's like this, we are investigating an unsolved case and need Ophelia's help. Could you please tell her about it?"

Ebel nodded and skipped towards the Maison Gardiennage.

After a while, Ebel appeared in Lin Yide's sight with Ophelia.

Ophelia stood with her hands on her hips, her eyes sharp, and said in an unkind tone: "Yide, you actually dared to deceive Ebel into leaving the Maison Gardiennage, you have a lot of nerve."

Ebel hurriedly explained: "Senior Ophelia, you misunderstood. Leaving the Maison Gardiennage was my own decision. There, I can only do some cleaning chores and can't use my true talents."

Hearing Ebel say this, Ophelia's tone softened slightly: "Ebel, you have to believe that as long as you persevere, someone will always see your light."

However, Lin Yide sneered and said mockingly: "Ophelia, you don't really think the Maison Gardiennage is a good place, do you?

They don't value you Melusines at all. If a top agent like you resigns, they will probably agree without hesitation."

Ophelia snorted disdainfully: "Who do you think you are? The Maison Gardiennage can't possibly be like what you said."

"If you don't believe me, just try it," Lin Yide said provocatively. "If the Maison Gardiennage really tries to keep you, I'll apologize to you immediately."

Ophelia glared at him and turned to leave: "Okay, then I'll go resign now and see if the Maison Gardiennage will try to keep me."

Her face was full of confidence, as if she had already seen Yide apologizing.

In her opinion, if she offered her resignation, the Chief Justice would have to come and beg her to stay in person.

She was a top agent, and many cases would become unsolved without her.

Then, she walked towards the Maison Gardiennage.

However, in just a quarter of an hour, she returned to Lin Yide with undisguised decadence and anger.

She never expected that as soon as she opened her mouth to offer her resignation, her superior would just be slightly stunned, and then reveal a relieved smile, approving her request without hesitation.

Just like that, Ophelia, the once glorious top agent, was unemployed!
