Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Furina Sees Through the Truth at a Glance

The sky was gloomy, thick with clouds, looking like it could rain at any moment.

Furina stepped out of the Palais Mermonia's doors and suddenly realized she had forgotten her umbrella.

She hesitated for a moment, considering whether she should go back to get it.

But the thought of Lin Yide's mocking face for her tardiness immediately dissuaded her, and she decided to hurry to the agreed location.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the location, slightly out of breath, only to find Lin Yide already waiting for her.

He held a black umbrella in his hand, his figure tall and straight, his face handsome, giving off a sense of security like a medieval knight.

His first words, however, made Furina furious: "Congratulations, Ms. Furina, you're only three minutes late."

"Yide, you big jerk!" Furina said resentfully, "I stayed up late last night reviewing the case files and numerous reports analyzing the Anna sisters' death case, which is why I'm late. Can't you have a little sympathy?"

Upon hearing this, Lin Yide raised an eyebrow slightly, asking with interest, "Oh? Do you have any brilliant deductions, then?"

Furina snorted, answering in her usual flamboyant tone, "Of course! According to my in-depth investigation, there was indeed a possible murder case eight years ago, which was the mysterious disappearance of Kano, the lawyer of Baron Edson, Mrs. Bella's husband.

I suspect that Kano was likely murdered, and Annie happened to witness it.

Three years ago, Annie inadvertently mentioned this case and was unfortunately overheard by the culprit at the time.

To cover up the truth, the culprit killed Annie. And Anna, because of her deep affection for her sister, couldn't accept such a cruel reality and ultimately chose to commit suicide."

She finished her deduction in one breath, then looked at Lin Yide triumphantly, as if expecting his surprise and admiration.

However, Lin Yide simply smiled faintly, "So, according to your line of thinking, we should now start investigating the cause of Kano's death, right?"

"Yes, that's right." Furina replied confidently, "As long as we can unravel the mystery of Kano's death, we can follow the clues and find the real culprit who murdered Annie."

"The Marechaussee Phantom also thought so back then." Lin Yide commented coldly, "Instead of investigating the recent death case, they investigated a case from five years ago. How could they possibly find anything?"

"Why couldn't they find anything?" Furina argued unwillingly.

Lin Yide didn't want to explain the reasons to her any further and turned to leave.

The direction of investigation proposed by Furina was definitely wrong. The Marechaussee Phantom had already gone down that path and found it impassable.

Moreover, Anna's death was definitely not suicide. The answer was simple: she still had her mother, Dana.

Furina was seething with anger, deliberately keeping a distance from Lin Yide, following behind him. She wanted him to know that the Goddess was angry.

The two walked through the bustling streets, and Lin Yide turned into a narrow alley.

As they went deeper, the surrounding houses became increasingly dilapidated, many windows simply covered with paper, exuding a desolate atmosphere.

Furina was increasingly surprised as she walked. She had never imagined that such a barren place was hidden in this prosperous city.

Finally, Lin Yide stopped in front of a remote and small house, gently knocking on the mottled wooden door.

After a brief wait, the door slowly opened, and a middle-aged woman appeared in the doorway.

She was thin, her face haggard, pale, and colorless, with sadness and pain deeply etched on her face.

The woman asked in a weak and trembling voice, "Are you?"

Lin Yide replied in a gentle tone, "Hello, Ms. Dana. I am Yide, a secret agent of Lady Furina. I'm here to reinvestigate the death case of your daughters and seek justice for them."

Hearing the word "daughters," Dana's eyes instantly welled up, and tears that had long dried up flowed again, sadness spreading across her face.

Furina followed closely behind, witnessing this heartbreaking scene, and her heart also felt incredibly heavy and uncomfortable.

"Ms. Dana, rest assured, this time I will definitely uphold justice and send the criminals to hell," Lin Yide said firmly.

Dana's emotions instantly became agitated. She trembled, trying to kneel to them to express her gratitude.

Lin Yide was quick to react, quickly supporting the poor mother.

Afterward, Dana led the two into her simple and small house.

The house was sparsely furnished, with only a dilapidated chair placed alone in the corner.

Lin Yide and Furina simply stood in the house and began to talk.

"Ms. Dana, we need to understand in detail the entire process of what happened that night," Lin Yide said solemnly.

Dana slowly recounted the situation that night: "There were many people at the party that night, about a hundred or so. Annie was playing with a group of children, and they were sharing their various exciting experiences with each other.

Among them, Annie said that she had witnessed a murder.

At the time, everyone just took Annie's words as a lie she had made up, because she often embellished other people's experiences and attributed them to herself."

At this point, Lin Yide couldn't help but interrupt Dana, "If that's what you say, then Annie is likely not the one who actually witnessed the murder.

Did you tell the Marechaussee Phantom investigators who investigated at the time about this?"

Dana nodded bitterly, answering, "Of course I told them, but those investigating agents turned a deaf ear to my words and didn't take them seriously at all."

Lin Yide's gaze slowly turned cold. It seemed that this case was simpler than he had imagined. The reason it had become a cold case was because…
