Chapter 22: The Magic of Love
Nottingham Forest, the largest virgin forest in the UK.
In a tall castle, Alexander turned over impatiently.
What came into view was a pink room full of girlish atmosphere. This was Alexander's room, specially decorated by his mother.
Alexander wasn't planning to make any changes for now. After traveling through time, it was hard to say whether he was Zhou Yi or Alexander Smith anymore.
Last night, he briefly chatted with Penelope and Kate, exchanging daily bits of information. For some reason, time seemed to fly by.
It had gotten very late, and while Penelope was visibly suppressing her sleepiness, Kate, oddly enough, only seemed to become more energetic.
Unknowingly, Alexander realized that Kate had tricked a lot of information out of him. Afraid his real age would be exposed, he quickly excused himself and went home.
However, even though he returned at two in the morning, thanks to his nearly level 4 body transformation, Alexander still woke up at six, feeling wide awake and a little frustrated.
Fortunately, he had deliberately retained the ability to sleep during his body enhancement training. Otherwise, at his current level, he would have long lost the need for sleep entirely.
Even now, though, sleeping was almost unnecessary. If he skipped meals, he could still replenish himself by absorbing magic instead. Especially with the magical nature of Ouroboros within him, the consumption of energy could be restored in just a single breath.
No sleep, no food, no exhaustion — soaring through clouds and mist. This was already standard for Alexander.
But in this magical world, magic leaned more toward spiritualism. Sleeping and enjoying food were ways to soothe the soul.
And then there was love — the greatest magic, as Dumbledore often said. In Lily's hands, strong love could even rebound the Killing Curse and bring Voldemort to ruin.
Unknowingly, Alexander had already been interacting with Penelope and Kate for months.
The Joy Spell — a spell only taught in third year at Hogwarts — was one Alexander had already mastered quite easily due to his immense talent.
But after last night's interaction with Penelope and Kate, the silent happiness he felt caused the Joy Spell to evolve.

Even his Charms proficiency had advanced to Level 4 — the peak most wizards could hope to reach in a lifetime of normal study, roughly equivalent to the seventh-year graduation level at Hogwarts.
At Hogwarts, most seventh-years had only managed to master a few specific spells to that depth. Their overall Charms skills usually hovered around Level 5 at best.
But relying purely on the clean, genuine happiness in his heart, Alexander's Joy Spell reached Level 5, and his magic overall stayed firmly in the Level 4 realm.
So... was it really things like love and courage that allowed Harry Potter to stand against Voldemort?
Alexander had already understood this intellectually, but he still felt a little speechless. Nevertheless, with his Black Knight rapid-firing technique, coupled with his physique and gunfighting skills, he could probably beat a wizard like Harry before they even had time to react.
It seemed that in future duels, he shouldn't waste time with taunts. If someone was mentally weak enough to be shaken by words, it wasn't worth bothering. And those with true faith would only strengthen their resolve when challenged.
Speaking of which, when Harry willingly marched toward death in the final book, his internal Patronus had already become so strong that he no longer needed the spell to resist Dementors.
When he kissed the Golden Snitch containing the Resurrection Stone, Dumbledore's true plan for him was finally revealed.
The dead — his parents, Sirius, Lupin — appeared to accompany him on his final walk. They became invisible guardian angels at his side.
Dumbledore really was a manipulative old man. As Snape once said:
> "I have spied for you, lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was to protect Lily Potter's son. And now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter—"
The topic drifted a little, but the point remained: through the Resurrection Stone, and through love, Harry's internal defenses became nearly invincible — possibly reaching Level 6 in Patronus power.
Dumbledore had secured the Resurrection Stone before his death, perfectly aware of the magic it held. Voldemort, wrapped in darkness, could never understand the true meaning behind it.
When Voldemort used Harry's blood to revive himself, he unknowingly tied Lily's protection spell even more deeply into both of them. As long as Voldemort lived, Harry could not die.
Thanks to Dumbledore's scheme, Lily's love continued to protect Harry — not just through Harry's body, but through Voldemort's as well. A chain of fate Voldemort himself could never break.
If it had been Dumbledore facing this situation, he would have sensed the danger instantly. Voldemort, incapable of love, remained oblivious.
In Dumbledore's original plan, Voldemort himself would destroy the last Horcrux — Harry — with his own hands, thereby fulfilling the prophecy.
Unfortunately, plans never survive contact with reality. Snape, who was supposed to kill Nagini, died under Nagini's fangs. In the end, it was Neville — the other "chosen one" — who destroyed the final Horcrux.
Thus, Dumbledore's carefully woven plan was disrupted, at least a little.
In truth, Dumbledore had prepared two paths:
One: Have Harry, Ron, and Hermione collect the Deathly Hallows and drive Voldemort away, using Snape as their inside agent.
Two: Convince Harry, through the bonds of friendship, to destroy the Horcruxes and willingly sacrifice himself, allowing Voldemort to be truly defeated.
Across seven books, Harry's soul and courage had been forged into a blade capable of slaying Voldemort.
By the time of the fifth book, Voldemort no longer dared to touch Harry's mind like before. Dumbledore explained it: Voldemort could not bear the purity and strength of Harry's soul.
Voldemort spent his life mutilating his own soul, starting with Myrtle's death in his school days.
Meanwhile, Alexander had tried to explore "the magic of love" by studying old books, such as The Magic of Love, Family Protection, and The Bonds Between People.
But no matter how inspirational the stories were, Alexander could no longer feel their warmth through a child's eyes.
The spells described within were only average — their true power lay in the intangible force called love.
Unknowingly, while reading and thinking, Alexander noticed that it was already 9 o'clock.
With a crack, Jack the house-elf appeared by the desk.
"Master, your letter."
Ah — a letter. A bit of trouble.
Due to the Smith family's traditions and magical protections, owls could only deliver letters to a special tower deep within a canyon — a good three-hour walk away if one didn't have house-elves.
It was thanks to this security measure that Voldemort's three invasions had been repelled.
Not long ago, Alexander had personally visited the canyon. Some Death Eater corpses still remained, along with several abandoned wands.
