Chapter 20 - Consequences

As expected, little arrogant Sheldon, who wanted to prove his intelligence through his inventions, didn't listen to Jimmy's advice—whom he saw as a rival.

As soon as Jimmy approached his front door, the rocket Sheldon had developed spiraled out of control in the garage and shattered a neighbor's window.

When Jimmy's parents heard the noise and came outside, they saw Sheldon and Tam staring at the mess they'd made just moments earlier.

But before they could approach to check if the kids were hurt, they saw two black vans pull up, and Judy, recognizing the men who stepped out, gave her son a piercing look.

"This time it wasn't me," said Jimmy, sensing her gaze from behind and denying any involvement that might've brought the FBI to their neighborhood.

He had been much more reserved with his experiments and inventions lately, so it was only natural that Jimmy had stopped causing as much trouble as he used to.

"We'll see about that..." Judy trusted her son, so when she saw the agents walking toward the Cooper house instead, she sighed in relief. This time, it wasn't her genius son getting into trouble.

A few seconds later, the Cooper family appeared, with George in the lead, looking at little Sheldon who, after a brief exchange with the FBI agents, was practically arrested.

From across the street, Connie saw the two men in suits approaching with bad intentions and hurried over to ask, "What happened?"

As she spoke, Connie was about to shield little Sheldon behind her, but she was stopped by one of the suited men.

"Please step back, ma'am…" said the man in the suit, gently moving Connie aside. He then turned to Sheldon and asked, "Once again, have you ever tried to purchase uranium in Arizona?"

Although Sheldon had a high IQ, he was still a child and rather naïve.

At that moment, under the agent's piercing gaze, he was so scared he couldn't speak and simply looked toward his parents for help.

George and Mary had never experienced anything like this before. Faced with the agents' questioning, they didn't know what to do.

But at that moment, Jimmy appeared beside the family, secretly observing the agents.

Recognizing one of them, he said with a smile, "Sheldon, don't be afraid. They won't hurt you if you just tell the truth."

Hearing Jimmy's words, both agents turned toward him with a warning look, but in the end, said nothing.

One of them, in particular, said, "Mr. Neutron, I hope you're not involved in this case."

"Not at all…"

With that support, Sheldon calmed down and answered, "Well, I did think about buying uranium, but the mine manager wouldn't sell it to me due to a lack of proper paperwork… If I had uranium as fuel, my rocket definitely wouldn't have gone out of control."

It must be said—Sheldon is quite talented. Lacking fuel for propulsion, he used electricity and still managed to make his rocket "take off" successfully.

After hearing Sheldon's explanation, the two suited men felt helpless against this intelligent child.

First of all, Sheldon was too young, and many of the methods used for handling such cases couldn't be applied to him. Second, it was clear the boy still hadn't realized how dangerous his actions were.

However, the two FBI agents had previously searched the garage and found no dangerous materials.

The questions asked were more of a routine matter.

Attempting to buy uranium wasn't proof of any crime.

In the end, the lead agent issued a verbal warning to little Sheldon under the charge of "threatening public safety."

Before leaving, the agent had private conversations with George and Mary, Sheldon's guardians, repeatedly reminding them to keep a close eye on their son.

"Do you know Jimmy?" Mary asked, confused as to why one of the agents knew her son's friend.

The agent in charge of monitoring Jimmy replied, "Let's just say he's caused trouble before… similar to your son, but on a much larger scale."

The rocket fiasco came to an end after George, his wife, and Grandma Connie gave little Sheldon a long, repeated lecture.
