CHAPTER 9
***Devin's POV**
"Okay, since Kyla is in town, she'll stay here till whenever" My dad said, as all of us gathered at the dinner table, which caused my mother to look at me with cautious eyes.
"Why? I mean her parents are rich enough to get her a villa here in Austria" Sophie said, dropping her spoon.
"Because I said so. As you are well aware, she is pregnant with your brother's child and as such, he'll take care of her till she gives birth and maybe ultimately decides to move out" My dad said, in a tone of fertility.
I didn't speak a word, but was just looking him in the eyes, and I nearly laughed.
"What is that, boy?" He asked, dropping his cutlery and cleaning his mouth with his napkin.
"Nothing" I said, but the humour was too much that I snickered.
It was funny the fact that he said that that was my child, meanwhile I have a dysfunctionality…which doesn't permit my erection. And I knew, that prior to that checkup I had never had an erection, whether with a male or female.
And my father thinks that that is my child, so it is either he knows the truth but is hiding it, or…Kyla was the one deceiving us all.
"Something you want to share?" My father asked again, as I saw his face hardening.
"Nothing, at all. Excuse me" I said and stood up.
"You've not eaten anything, son" My mother called after me.
I continued going without looking back. I got into my car and drove off, going to the hospital to ask for clarification.
"Hello, Dr. Byheli" I said and opened his door to seat down, but he wasn't in and i decided to wait for him. After few minutes, he walked in.
"Ah, Mr. Klein, what brings you by?" He asked, and sat down, removing his lab coat.
"I have a question. Can I..with my condition, impregnate someone?" I asked, titling my head.
"Uh, well..that's quite impossible" He said, looking at me squarely.
Hmm…if that was impossible then I'm more than certain that, that wasn't my child. But, me, coming outright to deny that pregnancy will result in a lot of issues, basically the family feud that will be caused.
And probably a disownment from my father.
"So there's a zero percent chance that a lady will be pregnant for me?" I asked, trying to get a clear answer.
"Yes. It's usually a zero percent chance, because you only ejaculate when you have sex and reach and orgams or early mornings" He explained and looked at me behind his glasses.
I need to ask Kyla a lot of questions because I'm not going to actually cater for a child that isn't mine. And there was a knock on the door, interrupting my journey into anger.
And I was even still the more angry.
"Come in" Dr. Byheli said and the door knob was turned and a middle aged nurse walked in.
"Sir, the patient is bleeding. I think she lost the baby, but from the look of things, she might lose a lot of blood of you don't come now" She said, going af her finger nails and breathing heavily.
"Sorry, excuse me, Mr. Klein" He said, getting up and wearing his lab coat.
"Sure thing" I said and he walked out, the nurse in front of him. I stayed in his office, but I wanted to see who the woman was.
I stood up and walked out of his office and I looked at the other end of the hall and I saw him going into a corner, and I followed him, behind and stealthily.
We soon came to a room and I saw a familiar figure seated on the bed side chair. She stood up once she noticed the doctor and I had to hide behind a curtain listening in on their conversation.
"Doctor, please what's happening? She's bleeding too much. The first doctor said that she didn't sustain so many bodily injuries but then she started bleeding from her legs after you said that she was fine and the baby was gonna be okay…. what's happening, doctor?" She said, crying and kneeling beside her sister.
My heart sank hearing those sobs. I was being lied to about a pregnancy and was so hung up on my own little problem, meanwhile she…she was watching that woman die..
"Please, ma'am you need to step back and let's take a look at her" I heard Dr. Byheli say, but I still heard her sobs, and ultimate silence.
But soon, the beeping of the machine was heard and I heard her panicked voice.
"Doc…doctor, what's…what's happening? Why is that..why is that, that the machine is beeping? Huh?" She said, her voice trembling.
"Take her into the operating room and put her on oxygen" I heard, Dr. Byheli scream and then saw doctors and nurses rushing into the room with a stretcher.
I looked at the other end of the curtain and I saw her there, standing and just staring, there wasn't any other emotion in her eyes apart from fear.
I don't know who that woman was but I could she how heart broken she was from standing all the way here, and it was so much that I even felt it too.
She started cleaning her tears as she seemed to recollect herself and started walking towards my direction where they took the woman to.
As I saw her getting closer to me, I jumped into the empty hospital bed and covered the blanket that only my forehead was showing, and immediately the smell of anaesthesia filled my nose and I immediately felt like throwing up.
I waited there till I heard her footsteps close to me, till I heard them fade. I got off the bed and walked behind her.
I stood at the corner of the hallway leading to the front door of the theater. She stood there at the front door and I saw fresh tears began flowing again.
She was severely heartbroken.
After few moments, a nurse came outside with bloody filled trays.
"Nurse, nurse. What's…what's happening?" She asked, holding the nurse's hand, the nurse looked at her and squeezed her hand.
And at this point, Dr. Byheli came out, his surgical gloves all covered in red and a look on his face that would even be a discouragement to me.
"Hey, doctor. What….why are you like this? Did something happen?" She asked and held his hands even though he still had the bloody gloves on.
"We….we are so sorry, Miss. But…she lost the baby" He said, taking off his gloves.
"Uh, okay? So what..what of her?" She asked, nodding her and going to cling on the his surgical wear.
I saw Dr. Byheli swallow and even I knew what was going to be next.
"She…she, uh, she couldn't make it too. I'm so sorry, but we lost her. She lost a lot of blood and there was nothing we could do to help her"
