Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Chapter 8

***Lauirna's POV**

I got discharged from the hospital and was ready to go back to work, but as I was walking down to the work I saw a red car parked outside, it was quite expensive so I didn't think much of it.

"Laurina!" I heard a male voice call to me, it sounded all familiar and it brought me back to the jubilee.

Shit, Devin Klein. What was he doing here?

My mind raced as my palms began sweating, I was thinking of a way out.

Don't turn back, Laurina. Just continue walking.

I thought as I moved in brisk fast movement, not looking back and surprising enough he didn't call me again. I walked some distance and I breathed out.

Thank the Lord.

I took a turn into a street and I saw him there, parked car and leaning against it. The sudden, demanding urge to cry, became worse.

"What do you want?" I asked him, coming to stand in front of him, which was better than running because he would have come to my workplace.

"To say hi, like a normal person" He said and his eyes scanned my body.

I justed nodded and kept mute but his eyes still wandered on my body.

"I'm sorry, looking for your baby on me?" I asked him, as I got fed up with the eyes.

"Are you hurt?" He asked, getting off his car and coming to stand in front of me.

"Excuse me?" I asked, playing dumb to the fact that he knew I was hurt and admitted. I want him to explain himself.

"Erh, what? Oh, uh…my…my sister, said, uhh, the…she's the one that .. actually the thing is that…the night…I got…no..my…" He stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck.

"You do know, none of those words are English, right? Like they don't make any sense" I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Do you remember the..what happened that night?" He asked, and I saw his eyes flicker and his head tilted.

"What do you mean?" I asked, defiantly, which made him squint his eyes.

"My car ran into you, Laurina. I thought you were dead, do you know how frightening that was? I had to offer to take you to the hospital and your sister didn't allow me but she said I could come visit. So what exactly happened that night? And how does a grown person crawl to the road?" He asked, and he looked like he was getting upset.

"Is that why you asked me if I was hurt?" I asked him and he just breathed out.

"What do you want from me?" He asked, coming closer and staring me in my eyes.

"Oh, that's cute. You look so petrified. I bet you've never been this scared for anyone. I take the trophy" I said, shaking my shoulders and wiggling my eyebrows.

He just watched me, his features softening, but his eyes were trained on me, and I saw his eyes smile as they brightened up.

"You sure as hell are the first person that got me that terrified because I nearly landed in jail, you crazy woman" He said, laughing and crying at the same time.

Was he crying from the thought of losing me? Wait, losing you? Are you guys a thing?

"It was cute seeing you cry but I'm already thirty minutes late. So I'll talk to you later" I said and was about moving past him, when he came to stand in front of me.

"Okay, lunch? I won't leave you alone until you tell me what caused you to be like that, that night" He said turning to the driver's seat and opening the door.

"I'm not—" I began but guess what? Asshole left waving at me..he didn't even tell me the place.

I walked to tge restaurant and I saw the amount of crowd that were lined up. I mean we didn't usually have this much crowd, because only rich business people came here and maybe other people that were not in the elites, some of them.

"Hey! Why does she get to enter before us?" A lady screamed from the line, and some other people chroused, 'Yeah'.

"Because I work here!" I screamed back and that caused them to shut up.

Hmm, seems to work perfectly fine.

I walked inside and saw John, a coworker of mine, he was handling three trays at once.

"Hey, what's with the rush this morning?" I asked him.

"Well, apparently, Sophie Klein posted about us I e her Instagram and here we are" He said and moved past me.

I nodded my head and walked to the dressing room and changed into my uniform, and went out to start serving.

I served several tables and I was so caught up that I didn't know the time until my phone rang from my apron.

"Hello?" I asked, placing the phone between my shoulder and ear while taking more orders.

"Hey, it's Klein. I just want to make up for sending you to the hospital" He said and I could imagine him in his high palace, sitting while his work was getting down by people.

"Hmm. Seems you aren't busy" I said, and this caused me to ask a particular customer what they said for the third time.

"I'm sorry, but I'm so busy right now, so…" I said and ended the call, putting my phone back and apologizing.

I got the orders ready and served them, this was the routine until the crowd started decreasing by a significant amount and i glanced at my watch and it was 7pm, but my shift was over two hours ago.

But our manager asked all hands to be on deck. Even he, himself, served customers. Very live example of lead with example.

We rounded off three hours later, and everyone, and I meant everyone, sat down for a breather. Usually, we'd all just change as fast as possible to go home and rest but this time, everyone sat down.

"Ugh, my waist" My manager said as he held his waist, and went into the back, it caused little laughter amongst us.

"I think you guys need more recognition. Ugh, I'm going to the hospital. Please, I'll give you your overtime checks tomorrow" He said and dropped his apron, took his keys and wished us good night.

And after thirty minutes, people started leaving, and I left too. I walked home, taking in the scenery. The sky had a lot of stars tonight.

After a few minutes, I arrived home. Ever since the accident, Heather made me stay with her, saying I'll need to stay here for a week for her to make sure I'm fine.

"Heather?" I called to her, closing the door and removing my scarf, but I was met with silence. The silence was so strange and odd, because Heather would rush to me, asking if I wanted to eat or how my day went.

The silence of the house reminded me of that night. We came home and everything was that silent, but it was so loud, that we felt it. That was the day we made a pact to be each other's lifeline.

I walked into the sitting room and I stepped on a liquid, I stretched my hand to the light switch and looked down. The red liquid beneath my feet made my blood freeze.

"Heather!" I screamed her name, this time with a trembling voce and erratic heartbeat. I rounded the couch and what I saw, made my chest tighten and oxygen, yet again, became difficult to take in.

"Heather" I said and rushed to my sister's battered body, blood coming from in between her legs and her forehead had a cut, unresponsive.

I reached for my phone with shaky hands and blurred vision , calling an ambulance.

"Hello? Please, I need help"
