Chapter 23 - Declaration Of War Against The Gods

One soldier untied Sola's hand and tied him to the piece of wood very firmly. Then they took his blindfold off.

Sola could only see clouds and the sun, which was making his eyes shut while looking at it. Then the piece of wood that he was tied to was brought up.

Sola saw another army that was standing in front of the wall in a fighting position to defend the city.

About fifty meters in front of the main army there were a dozen soldiers standing.

Sola could see Erwin standing in front with his cohort, with some other highly skilled warriors.

Everyone was there except Freide and Edric, who were probably in the main army.

Every member of the cohort was looking at him with a serious expression on their face.

He was tied to a cross in front of the army.

In the next moment, Sola heard the sound of heavy footsteps from behind, and the whole army went silent.

The man who was more than two meters long stood in front of him.

He then looked at Sola with a hateful expression on his ugly face and shouted,

"Do you all know who this bastard is?"

There was no answer; everybody was tense and silent.

"He is the man who helped the dark demoness kill Lady Maria."

Everyone started shouting and cursing at him.

The man went up to him, brought a knife to his hand, stretched it out, and with a hateful scream nailed Sola's hand with the knife to the wood.

There was blood flowing from his hand, painting the ground and the wood red.

Sola had his head down, cursing at everything and everyone; the knife was not hurting as much as the hatred in his whole body, the sense of unjustness was way more bitter than any wound they could ever do to him.

Every member of the cohort was looking at Sola as the man started making cuts on his body, painting his whole body red while screaming and cheering his army.

Everyone had a frown on their face except for Erwin, who was looking at the sight unshaken.Sola brought his head up and spat a mouthful of blood on the ground.

He then smiled at the man who was about to behead him with a huge axe.

The smile on Sola's face made the man even angrier.

"What are you smiling at, you devil?"

While Sola's smile grew wider, he felt something breaking inside of him; he felt like he was free of something.

His teeth were entirely red.

"Behind you, bastard."

The man turned around in a swift motion as he felt something behind him, but it was already too late.

His head rolled to the ground, his scared face frozen on it; behind him stood Lily. She swung her sword to the side and removed the blood from it.

Everyone was stunned for a second; Lily untied Sola in one quick motion. Soldiers were already attacking them.

Sola fell and started running forward with as much speed as he could muster.

His mark was activated and was giving him more power than he had ever received from it, but he was hurt and injured pretty badly in lots of places.

From the moment he was tied to the T-shaped wood, he was trying to activate his curse, but it was not working until he received an unfathomable amount of power from his curse, and the spell that they placed on him broke.

Lily was fighting everyone who tried to chase him; he did not know what to do—if he disabled the ability, they would catch up to him, but if he did not, he would find himself in the middle of the two armies, which would want to kill him.

He saw the whole cohort sprinting towards him, trying to get to him before any of the soldiers caught up to him, but they were still too far away.

As Sola thought that he was relatively safe and had escaped, an arrow hit his heart from behind at a terrible speed.

It went straight into Sola's chest, and its tip managed to escape from the other side of him.He staggered, took one more step, and fell to his knees; he saw Gruin freeze in one place as soon as the bearded man saw an arrow stuck in his chest.

He was fighting his eyelids, which were shutting down uncontrollably.

"I can't die here… not yet, let me live and take revenge on the gods, please,"

Sola whispered to the deity.

In the next moment, the clouds were painted black, and a huge symbol of a skull was forming from them.

Sola heard the familiar voice, which seemed angry:

"We will make them pay for what they did to us, leave everything to me now, and go to sleep."

Sola fell down and everything went dark but he could still hear what was happening for some time.

Everyone on the battlefield was tense and scared; they were looking at the sky.

Then a deafening voice sounded from the clouds:

"From now on, know that the son of the traitor, the son of the seventh god, has returned to seek revenge on the very gods."

Everybody had their head up listening to the sound.

Then the cloud descended on the army that had killed Sola.

Only when it got too close did they realize that it was not a dark cloud; it was a swarm of black beetles coming their way.

In one minute, half of the army disappeared, entirely eaten by the beetles; there was not even a bone or a piece of armour left from them.

Then the swarm went in the other army's direction. The whole formation broke, and everyone started running away except for Erwin's cohort.

They were facing the beetles, which were coming their way at a terrible speed, unfazed.Even though they were doomed, there was no point in escaping either.
