A week and a half had passed since Chen Yiran's outburst. She hadn't spoken to Wang Zichen since, not that she was in any hurry to. If he wanted to disappear for months, fine. She didn't need him!
That's what she told herself, at least.
She had learnt a lot for that past week about the world she had transmigrated into. She had received the other video piece, but it was just an accident by the nurse, nothing major.
She had grown this strong attachment with her daughter Azalea that sometimes she thought if the previous Chen Yiran was to come back, she might refuse to leave. But mostly was her thoughts being occupied by Wang Zichen that she too didn't notice.
Her phone buzzed, interrupting her thoughts.
Dr. Evelyn Xu. Her birth doctor.
Chen Yiran answered, her tone neutral.
"Hello?"
"Miss Chen, just a reminder, Young Miss' two week clinic appointment is tomorrow," Dr. Xu said, her voice neutral.
Chen Yiran sighed, rubbing her temple. She had nearly forgotten, "Got it. I'll bring her in."
After ending the call, she exhaled slow.
The next morning, after breakfast, Chen Yiran dressed up, she had worn a sweat-pant and a t shirt as she didn't see the reason for dressing all glamourously when she would be in the hospital and carrying Azalea.
She scooped little Meiyue into her arms. The baby cooed happily, tugging at a strand of Chen Yiran's hair as she carried her outside.
She barely made it to the car before stopping short, A whole squad of bodyguards stood by looking ready for a full on security operation.
Her brows shot up. 'Seriously?'
The small army of bodyguard stood by, their presence impossible to ignore.
"Are you all following us?" She turned to one of them.
The guard remained expressionless, "We're escorting you for safety Miss Chen."
Chen Yiran let out a dry chuckle, adjusting Azalea in her arms who had started eating her hair, "We're going for a check up in the clinic, not infiltrating a mafia hideout."
She shook her head, "Stay back. You'll draw unnecessary attention and Azalea doesn't need that."
There was a brief pause before the guards exchanged looks and then stepped back complying with her request.
Satisfied, Chen Yiran climbed into the car with Azalea nestled securely in her arms. As the engine purred to life, she leaned back against the seat, her gaze fixed on the road ahead. It was supposed to be a comfortable journey but turned uncomfortable for Chen Yiran when Azalea started crying half way and she had to feed her. The driver thankfully lowered the car's partition.
At the hospital, Dr. Xu greeted Chen Yiran with a warm smile before ushering her into the pediatric clinic. She walked followed by her personal body guard, Myles.
Chen Yiran settled into the chair, adjusting Azalea in her arms, before undressing her as it was needed for the tests.
Dr. Xu started with the routine tests, checking Azalea's weight, length and head circumference.
"She's growing beautifully. Perfectly within the range," she remarked.
Chen Yiran watched as Dr. Xu gently examined Azalea's tummy, tested her reflexes and listened to her heartbeat with a stethoscope. The baby scrunched her face, guess it was cold on her skin.
The real test arrived.
"Now for her vaccinations," Dr. Xu announced.
Chen Yiran instinctively held Azalea a little tighter. "It won't hurt much, right?" she already knew the answer but asked anyway.
Dr. Xu gave a reassuring nod, "Just a quick pinch, but she'll be okay."
The nurse handed over the prepared injections; Hepatitis B, Rotavirus and the DTaP/IPV/Hib vaccine. The moment the first needle pricked her delicate thigh, Azalea's face scrunched up. A second later, a loud wail filled the room.
Chen Yiran's heart twisted, "Oh, sweetheart..." she rocked Azalea gently, kissing her forehead as the nurse finished up.
Dr. Xu placed a small band-aid over the injection site.
"That's it. She did great."
Azalea was not about to stop crying anytime soon. She had them powerful cries.
"She might be a bit fussy today," Dr. Xu advised, "Some mild fever or swelling is normal, but if anything seems unusual give me a call."
Chen Yiran nodded, her focus entirely on the little bundle in her arms, "Oh hush baby! You are brave my love!" she kissed her forehead, rocking her gently.
Azalea hiccupped between soft cries, her tiny hands gripping Chen Yiran's blouse seeking comfort.
Back at the mansion, Mo Yeji arrived, slipping off her sunglasses as she stepped inside. It was two weeks since Chen Yiran chased her away and there she was, Back.
"Miss Mo, welcome," Butler Lu greeted her with a respectful nod, "Miss Chen isn't home at the moment. She took the young mistress for her two week check up at the clinic."
Mo Yeji placed a hand on her hip, gasping in exaggerated offense, "She what? She took Azalea for the check up and didn't invite me?" in mock offense, "I'm her godmother! Unbelievable." shaking her head as if deeply wounded.
Butler Lu found it hard to school his expression, "Miss Chen is not alone. Her personal bodyguard, Myles accompanied her."
"I didn't ask you? Ignorant old fool!" Mo Yeji looked at Butler Lu with distaste before she asked, "What did you just say?"
Butler Lu if it was by his choice, he'd kick Mo Yeji out but she was Chen Yiran's guest, "Her personal bodyg..."
Mo Yeji cut him off, "Just Myles? Not the others?"
There was something wrong with Mo Yeji's misplaced enthusiasm that Butler Lu couldn't pinpoint, "Miss Vaughn felt the security team would attract unnecessary attention."
Mo Yeji pursed her lips, then exhaled dramatically, "Fine, whatever!" she then , "Get me something to drink, something cold."
With a small bow, the butler disappeared toward the kitchen. As soon as he was out of sight, Mo Yeji pulled out her phone, her manicured fingers gliding over the screen as she dialed a number.
"I have some exclusive news for you," she murmured, her voice dripping with satisfaction, "Chen Yiran is at Energy Hospital right now for her daughter's clinic." with a smirk, "Thought you might want to know."
