Chapter 13 - Apocalypse on Earth

Only two main quests had been given by the world since the apocalypse began.

Main quests referred to a general quest that everyone in a certain region had to follow or could participate in. Meaning, everyone would be alerted about this quest.

But within the main quest, there were different quests that were sub-family to it.

One of those being the Private quest. This is when the world offers you a chance to earn big by giving you a quest only you can complete.

That was the quest Veronica got.

According to what she told Jayhan, right after she split off from the main group to come look for him, the quest showed up, urging her to give the video game to him.

Reasons as to why that is? No one knew at the time, but this only further solidified Jayhan's theory about the perpetrator of Earth's destruction.

"But why me though..." Jayhan thought to himself while standing in the middle of the store.

Both Kara and Veronica had gone toward the back of the convenience store to check if there was anything useful they could find, like bullets for the gun they took from the man who tried to kill them a few moments ago.

That left Jayhan alone by himself in the store.

In order not to draw attention from outside, he switched off the bulbs, allowing the moon to be the only source of light before he locked the door.

That way, while no one could see what was inside the store, only he could tell if someone was outside.

30 minutes before the next scenario - Jayhan was determined to use this opportunity to learn more about his skills, in order to use them to the best of his abilities.

[The skill Radar has been activated.]

His eyes took a slight red glow.

There were two things he noticed after using the skill Radar. One was that he could tell where both Kara and Veronica were at the moment and also track down almost anything he could imagine with a range stretching from the shopping store all the way to the end of the street.

Now it wasn't a vivid image; rather, whatever he was looking for would be represented by a colored dot.

Almost as if he had a mind map in his head.

And the second was trickier to understand.

He wasn't entirely sure, but the skill allowed him to either predict future quests or gave him a near possible one that could come up.

When this part of the skill is activated, Jayhan could see himself standing in a pool of darkness, with the notification hovering before him.

[Main quest #3 - Form a group of five and meet up at the general plaza.

Description: You are to form a group with other survivors and meet up at the designated area. Once a group has been formed, your stats will be updated, and your skills will level up faster depending on how strong your members are.

Reward: A chance to sign a contract with a Divine.

Penalty: Everywhere but the main Plaza will be swarming with high-level monsters.

Note: There is no danger in this quest; this is an illusion, choose however, or the statement becomes invalid.]

"This is the next quest? It looks similar to what the system normally brings out, so I don't think it's false. The question is the accuracy.

And to make a deal with a Divine? What is that? Not to mention the note is confusing as hell."

Now he stroked his chin.

"But if this is really the next quest, then I have the upper hand here, unless there are other people that have this ability too. If not, I can use this fully to my own advantage. Every gamer knows to always utilize the tools given to you."

Jayhan suddenly remembered...

"Right... the game..."

Blinking, he found himself back at the store, the Radar skill deactivating on its own.

His next two skills were not hard to understand since he had already used them before... sure, he wasn't well-versed, but right in that moment, his entire curiosity was drawn to something else.

Yes, the game Veronica had given him in order to complete a private quest the system gave her.

Wasn't it odd that the system would put out a quest like that? You don't have to be in the apocalypse for too long to tell this was favoritism in disguise.

Then again, why on Earth would someone who wants to destroy the world to entertain themselves pull such a move?

So many questions and so few answers.

And the questions just kept pouring and pouring as Jayhan removed the gaming disc from the back of his pocket.

Apocalypse on Earth.

At first, he couldn't quite tell what was written on it as it looked like the disc was broken and then fixed together with the cracks still showing.

But after studying it for a while, he was certain those were the words he saw.

Apocalypse on Earth, a game that suddenly came into the market, and no one knew how or why.

Every game store in Seoul city had at least ten copies of this mysterious game. It blew up over the Internet, a game that had no parent company or even any type of promotion ended up on the front shelf in every game store.

Of course, there were people that tried to play the game; some couldn't get past the prologue due to the bad graphics, and others were disappointed it was more of a visual novel than a survival game.

To be honest, Jayhan was no different; he also didn't like the game, not even a little bit. He would rather suck his own toe than sit 8-9 hours playing such a game.

Or so he thought, when Kara said she wanted it for her birthday, he couldn't help but want to try it out too.

... Then the apocalypse began.

The question, though, still remained -

"Why was there a quest to hand this to him?"

A single light suddenly shone on the disc - it was unexpected, so Jayhan was ready to throw it away, thinking it was some kind of bomb.

He was wrong.

[The system has recognized an unidentified item.]

[The skill has been gained to counter bugs.]

[Self-insertion.]

[Would you like to self-insert?]
