Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Goblins Are Up to No Good

I couldn't believe any of this was happening to me this far in my life. I couldn't get away from the goblins and zombies in the graveyard. Who were staggering back and forth on their empty graves they crawled out of.

I don't know much about them. They just seem slow and dumb creatures of the night. I wanted my grandmother, Mrs. Treat, not to do anything she'd regret doing to her granddaughter. Pulling me by my long, curly, brown hair, my grandmother ignored my cries of defeat.

"You are too cute!" exclaimed one of the slow, dimwitted goblins, said to his partner. They were next to grandma's graveyard. Picking at the yellow flowers in the planted dirt ground. "I can't wait to make all the young boys and girls in Supernaturalville become one of us and get to play with us all night long!" the wart-faced covered goblin on the right, said to his friend.

Picking at the yellow flower in her hand, the girl zombie started picking the yellow pedals off the flowers. And then eating the flower pedals off the dirt ground. As ugly bugs like cockroaches started crawling over her hand.

She screamed, as she and her partner kicked at the cockroaches who were scavenging for food. Her partner jumped up and sat on top of my grandmother's tombstone, trying to avoid the ugly, crawling cockroaches from crawling over them.

The little nasty bugs scuttled away, behind the tombstone and disappeared. "You girl," snickered the girl goblin. Who kept picking at the yellow flower pedals off the grass next to my grandma's tombstone.

As I struggled to free my grasp from undead zombie grandma, from dragging me away from the graveyard, I knew I had to stall and grab her attention. I don't know what more could be expected from me. But I didn't want to get in her bad mood.

"What do you want from me, grandma?" I cried, kicking up dirt from the muddy ground. "I just want you to know I love you, no matter what you do to me," I confessed. But I don't think, Mrs. Treat was listening to me.

Suddenly, there was a flash of glowing white light coming from the full moon in the night sky. As the dark, storm clouds parted the sky. Making the staggering, sleepwalking zombies in the graveyard come to an abrupt stop. And then, they slumped to the ground, next to their empty tombstones.

Lightning flashed from the dark storm clouds. Causing shadows from the trees and tombstones to dance in the darkness. Grandma, too suddenly slumped to the wet, dirt ground, and fell into a deep sleepy trance.

"Grandma?" I whispered. Trying to nudge her by her shoulders, Grandma snored loudly on the ground, next to me. I slowly sat up and took a look around the cursed graveyard I was caught in.

As I started to get up, I jumped with fright. Standing in front of me, were the two goblin kids who seemed to be after me. The girl goblin on the right of her partner, held a yellow flower out for me to take.

Cautiously, I took the flower and sniffed it. Crinkling my nose in disgust, I half-expected to smell a pleasant aroma coming from the flower. Instead, it was wrecked of stench and putrid. I smiled innocently, and hid the flower in my hands behind my back.

"You must be the girl who likes the goblins in Supernaturalville," said the male goblin, next to his partner. "If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be real," he continued. "I want you to meet our goblin king. He's very pleased to meet you," said the male, friendly goblin.

I shook my head in disbelief. "But I couldn't possibly believe you are nothing but imaginary creatures who only exist to younger children than myself," I explained, hopefully they understood me. "I'm getting too old to believe that such creatures should exist!" I said, trying not to show them how much fear and anxiety I was feeling against these make-believe creatures of darkness, next to me.

I started to slowly back away from the two, suspicious goblins, who kept trying to grab my attention. "There's nothing to be afraid of, miss," said the male goblin, with a wry smile, showing his sharp teeth were stained and crooked.

I was starting to feel uncomfortable being around these two, mythical creatures, who should not possibly exist to me. "You aren't real!" I screamed, grabbing hold of the sides of my long, blond hair, and pulling at my hair in anger.

They weren't going anywhere. Still trying to calm me down, I was getting hysterical. "Calm down, miss," said the friendly, male goblin. "There's no need to get upset," he continued. "Here, take this from us," he said.

Holding out a purple crystal jewel that glowed in the moonlight, the male goblin handed me the jewel to take. "You need this more than ever," explained the male goblin creature. "It will help you to prove to us we are real. There is something dark and mysterious happening in our cursed little town. We need you to make it disappear and never see the light of day again," the friendly, male goblin said.

I hesitated in taking the glowing, purple jewel from the goblin creature. He smiled and quickly forced me to take the jewel necklace and let me have it. "What if I am not the girl with the power to stop the dark shadows from taking over our town? I'm not strong enough to do it all by myself," I said, honestly.

"Emma Heart, you got this, girl!" Suddenly, we all jumped with fright. Hearing the male voiceover in our minds, seemed to be coming from the glowing jewel pendant I was holding. "You have all my faith and belief you can do anything you put your mind to!" the male voiceover, with a strong accent said.

I almost dropped the jewel from slipping out of my sweaty palm hands. But the goblin girl quickly grabbed hold of it by her scaly, green clawed hands. Before the jewel had time to hit the ground, and break into shards of little glass pieces.

Heart pounding, I thanked the goblin girl, and took the glowing, purple jewel from her. "I don't know what to say," I said. "I think I'm going to lose my mind," I continued. The glowing purple jewel in my hand, laughed and glowed brightly in my hands.

"Girl, don't be afraid of what must be done after the existence of the stalking shadow monsters," said the male goblin. "Who wants nothing more than to do to keep you from harm and get you to believe the goblins are not your friends," he said, smiling.

It's lightning and thundering again. I knew something was going to make me regret believing in fairy tale monsters that have no purpose in this life. I knew the goblins weren't going to help me against dark shadow creatures from becoming real to me. I had no choice but to accept my true nature. I must do what must be done to make the imaginary shadow creatures of darkness not do anything to get in my way.
