The hallway outside the hospital room was unusually quiet, except for the soft hum of machines and the occasional shuffle of nurses passing by. Ava stood beside James, her arms crossed and her eyes fixed on the closed door in front of them. Her heart felt heavy with worry, her brows furrowed with concern. She kept glancing at the door like it would open any second and offer her some relief.
When it finally did, Liam stepped out, straightening his suit jacket and calmly fastening the buttons as if everything inside the room had been a regular conversation. But Ava knew better. She knew him too well to miss the tension in his shoulders or the way he avoided her eyes.
Without wasting time, Ava walked up to him and asked with urgency, "Hey, what did you say to him?"
Liam barely looked at her as he answered with a firm, controlled tone, "A man-to-man talk."
