August 1st.
A video was released announcing that Isaac Netero, Chairman of the Hunter Association, had resigned.
The clip was extremely short.
Netero wore his "Spirit" shirt—the uniform he donned only when fully committed to battle.
It was clear that before heading to East Gorteau to confront the Ant King, he had already prepared for death.
Installing the Miniature Rose in his heart was both a symbol of his resolve…
And his final trump card.
"Ah... uh, I'm Netero,"
he began casually, arms crossed over his chest,
like he was casually mentioning that he had toast for breakfast.
"I'm resigning as Chairman.
The rest is up to you."
There wasn't a shred of sincerity in the delivery.
Especially with what came next:
"The next Chairman will be decided through an election.
My condition: all Hunters must vote.
If voter turnout doesn't reach 95%,
the election is void and must be redone."
"Voting dates, methods, all that boring stuff—let the Zodiacs figure it out.
I'd rate the difficulty as a D.
Good luck, take care!"
And with that—he vanished.
Scattered across the globe, licensed Hunters received the Association's notice and began heading toward HQ.
When Joey arrived at Association Headquarters, it was August 5th.
Only a few days remained before the election on the 8th, so the place was far more crowded than usual.
He followed Kite inside to check in.
Technically, Joey was still an active temp worker.
Even if he wanted to resign, he needed to claim the new identity the Association had already arranged.
As they entered the lobby, Joey noticed many eyes glancing their way.
But as far as he could sense… no one here was particularly noteworthy.
Maybe the real players hadn't arrived yet.
Noticing his thoughts, Kite explained:
"There are currently 662 licensed Hunters.
To qualify, they must meet the Ten Hunter Commandments,
specifically the second: 'All Hunters must possess the minimum understanding of martial arts.'
So yes, every Hunter can use Nen."
"That said, many Hunters aren't combat specialists.
Those who are make up only a minority."
"That's true," came a calm, steady voice behind them.
Turning around, Joey saw a man dressed like a cow—horned hat, black-and-white attire, and even dark circles under one eye.
"Mizaistom?" said Kite.
Joey immediately recognized him—Mizaistom Nana, the Zodiac Ox,
and a Double-Star Crime Hunter.
He was also the man Joey had once anonymously sent a tip-off to.
"Hello," Joey said politely.
"Good to see you."
"Likewise," Mizaistom replied.
"The Chairman wanted the Zodiacs to oversee everything—
timing, procedures, the whole thing.
I assume Ging will show up too."
His tone was gentle and measured.
The man exuded professionalism and discipline.
Then Mizaistom looked directly at Joey.
"You're Joey Joestar, yes ? That's your new name ?"
"That's right. My old name ? Let's just forget it."
"Joey Joestar"—his newly registered identity.
Joey figured that just calling himself "Joey" made him sound out of place among people like Gon and Killua.
So why not go full-on Joestar?
He liked the sound of "JoJo."
The message to Mizaistom was clear:
I'm not Kira Yoshikage anymore.
If you're here to arrest that guy—wrong person.
Mizaistom nodded slightly.
"If possible, I'd like more detailed information.
About your former self's crimes.
I'll pay handsomely, of course."
Joey frowned.
"Sorry."
He was genuinely curious why Mizaistom asked…
But he didn't know what Kira Yoshikage had done.
So he couldn't provide answers even if he wanted to.
"That was impolite of me," Mizaistom apologized.
Kite then spoke on Joey's behalf, after a brief nod from him:
"He doesn't remember."
Kite didn't mention Naru—the root of Joey's memory loss—
but his word was enough.
Mizaistom trusted Kite.
"I understand," he said kindly, then added:
"May I call you Joey?"
"Of course," Joey smiled.
This kind of goodwill was welcome.
"I believe I received a letter from you.
The contents were… intriguing.
I didn't catch him, but I did locate him."
He pulled out a checkbook.
"I was going to mail you a reward,
but your address kept changing.
Now that we've met in person…"
He scribbled a number, then handed the check to Joey.
Three million Jenny.
Not much.
But the tip Joey gave wasn't really for money.
A bonus was a bonus.
"You didn't catch Gyro? That's a shame."
Gyro.
Once Kira's boss.
Joey doubted this would be the last time they crossed paths.
"He's cunning.
And he's surrounded himself with Chimera Ants.
Meteor City isn't easy to infiltrate."
Then Mizaistom handed Joey a business card.
"If you need legal help or protection,
don't hesitate to call.
Same goes for intel—my line is always open."
Joey pocketed the card seriously.
"Thanks. I will."
"One more thing," Mizaistom said quietly.
"Even with your new identity…
Kakin still has a bounty on your head.
In fact, they've upped it.
Now that you're here, they may act."
Joey wasn't surprised.
He'd killed two Nen users from Kakin during the NGL operation.
If someone wanted revenge, it had to be a Prince.
Most likely… Prince Tserriednich.
The fourth prince.
What a pain…
Still, with the Chairman dead, his son Beyond Netero would soon take center stage.
Kakin would send people to the Dark Continent.
When that time came, the princes and king would all be on the expedition ship.
No one would have time to hunt down Joey.
He just had to survive the next few weeks.
Joey felt confident.
He wasn't the strongest,
but with Killer Queen and Gold Experience,
he could hold his own.
Watching Mizaistom leave, Joey channeled a sliver of Nen into the business card.
It turned into a snake-like wisp and slithered into his wallet.
"Mizaistom's a good guy," said Kite.
"You should stay in touch.
But be careful—he gave you a card because he sees you as a potential client.
Someone's probably coming."
Everything after that was simple.
Joey's new identity was already finalized.
He wasn't just "Joey Joestar" now—
He was officially recognized for his role in the Chimera Ant extermination.
When he stepped out of HQ,
his bank account had jumped to nearly 100 million Jenny.
Financial freedom had suddenly arrived.
"Let's go," said Kite.
"Hospital first."
Joey had mentally prepared to see Andrei,
but the sight of the Puppeteer hovering behind him—
now in the form of Terpsichora—still startled him.
The Nen beast was constantly draining Andrei's aura.
He looked skeletal.
"It's evolved again?"
He used "again" because…
after Neferpitou's death, her Terpsichora had hijacked other corpses.
But back then, it didn't feed on aura.
Now?
It had grown stronger.
Much stronger.
"Yeah," said Morel, who had stayed at the hospital.
"We've tried dozens of Exorcists.
None can remove it.
Or rather—they don't dare.
Any attempt will trigger retaliation, killing both them and Andrei."
"So what now?" Joey frowned.
Andrei's situation was Joey's responsibility too.
He wasn't close to him…
But seeing him lying there, wasting away…
It wasn't something Joey could ignore.
"Killua said he might have a solution," Gon added,
"but he'll need our help."
Joey's eyes narrowed.
He hadn't expected Killua to go this route,
but it was obvious—
He was bringing Alluka.
Except…
Wait. That doesn't add up.
Alluka couldn't heal from afar.
Nanika required touch.
But Terpsichora wouldn't let anyone get close to Andrei.
Besides, Joey could already keep Andrei alive by replacing damaged organs.
The problem wasn't healing—it was removing the parasite.
And Nanika's strength was destruction.
Joey smirked.
Killua wasn't just trying to heal Andrei.
He wanted to free Alluka.
And needed their help to do it.
But this was Zoldyck family business.
Why involve the Extermination Team?
There had to be more to it.
A secret none of them knew.
Joey overheard Gon and Kite talking about Ging.
Apparently he'd be returning soon.
Gon would get his chance.
Nothing more to do at the hospital,
Joey returned to his hotel and resumed training.
True strength came from daily discipline.
After the Chimera Ant arc,
Joey had learned that lesson well.
He never wanted to feel that kind of helplessness again.
Even if his personality leaned laid-back,
his resolve to grow stronger never wavered.
