Joey had considered the idea of saving Netero—

But events unfolded far too quickly for him to act.

As soon as they left the 4-Dimensional Apartment, Palm had relayed everything she saw.

The King's strength…

It was beyond what any of them had expected.

For a moment, the Extermination Team fell silent.

But there wasn't much time for reflection.

Palm had to continue monitoring the King's movements.

If Komugi failed to stop him…

Then they would have no choice but to act.

Even knowing they were no match,

There were some fights that had to be fought—

no matter the odds.

Joey, for his part, remained calm.

He believed in Komugi.

He believed she could keep the King rooted.

Besides, as a healer, he wasn't exactly suited for leading a charge.

There was something different about Komugi.

In their brief conversation, Joey had sensed it—

As if, across countless rewound timelines,

Komugi had already reached the answer she needed.

So when Meruem returned to the palace and sat across from her at the Gungi board,

the team finally exhaled.

What followed was not battle, but a vigil.

As the Miniature Rose's virus began its work—

three corpses remained in the palace.

Nothing more.

It was a bittersweet ending.

But the world moved on.

With Netero's death and the detonation of the Rose,

military planes from all nations entered East Gorteau.

The Hunter Association deployed operatives.

Palace security.

Disaster relief.

None of it interested Joey.

He had his sights on what came next.

The Chimera Ant Crisis was over.

An imperfect conclusion—

but an ending nonetheless.

His only remaining obligation was helping Andrei recover.

After fulfilling his duties in East Gorteau, Joey would be eligible to take the Hunter Exam.

Whenever he felt like it.

It was only early August.

He had time.

Before leaving, Joey glanced back at the palace.

A lone hawk dived through the throne room,

striking Komugi's corpse.

First Bomb triggered.

The body vanished.

Sensing the detonation, Joey turned without a word and followed the others.

East Gorteau was no longer their responsibility.

International agencies would handle it.

Still—

the body count was staggering.

Between NGL, Rokario, and East Gorteau,

over 500,000 people had perished.

Especially in the aftermath of the election rally—

over 40,000 attendees had died from "mysterious symptoms."

And with the entire upper government of East Gorteau and NGL wiped out,

the International Security Council took over administration of both nations.

Effectively—

they had ceased to exist.

Roughly 5 million refugees were divided among the remaining three nations of the Mitene Federation.

Only East Gorteau's land was redistributed.

NGL, with its sparse population and ungoverned territory,

was designated a permanent nature reserve under international law.

Officially managed by the Hunter Association.

Unofficially?

Everyone knew NGL would return to being a Bio-Latte plantation.

The Association's control was limited to surface-level oversight.

The deeper corruption was well beyond their reach.

Still—

they did retrieve the Flesh Trees.

The Association gained over 5,000 artificial humans,

all born with innate Nen potential.

August 3rd.

Joey returned to the Rokario Republic.

To Nove's villa, where Palm had stayed.

It was bustling now.

Nove and Morel had already left for Hunter HQ.

Andrei had been transferred to a hospital near HQ.

With the best medical experts, Exorcists, and Nen specialists nearby—

it was the ideal place for recovery.

Money was no object.

Nove, after all, was one of the world's top 100 richest individuals.

According to Kite,

60 of the top 100 were Pro Hunters.

With Nen, expertise, and drive—

every Star-Ranked Hunter was the apex of their field.

A titan in their domain.

Joey wasn't greedy, but…

He'd felt the sting of poverty before.

He'd take the shortcut.

Become a Hunter.

A license opened 90% of the world's borders.

Granted access to 75% of restricted zones.

95% of public infrastructure was free to use.

And the license itself could fetch a fortune—

enough for seven generations to live in luxury.

Joey's plan:

Heal Andrei.

Take the exam.

Explore the world with Kite.

As for the Chairman Election?

Joey wasn't eligible.

Nor did he care.

Let someone else deal with it.

Besides, without Gon's incident,

Ging and Pariston might not even get their "game" off the ground.

Still…

Joey was curious.

If Gon and Ging did cross paths—

what would that reunion look like?

From the moment they left East Gorteau, though,

Killua had been unusually quiet.

Joey had a guess.

He might've remembered her—

Alluka Zoldyck.

Technically, he should've remembered her the moment he yanked out Illumi's needle.

He didn't leave because he was worried about Gon.

Now that it was over…

He had someone else to think about.

He couldn't keep her locked in the basement forever.

Joey knew the Zoldycks well enough.

Killua and Alluka's bond—

wasn't like the rest of their family.

But getting her out wouldn't be easy.

And Killua?

He probably wouldn't tell the others.

Maybe not even Gon.

Because Alluka's power was too abnormal.

Even Joey remembered it vaguely.

A wishing machine.

If Alluka—possessed by the unknown entity Nanika—

accepted a wish,

anything could be granted.

But at a cost.

Joey didn't want to get involved with the Zoldycks.

He preferred to stay far, far away.

"Joey, do you want to see Rena before we go?"

Kite's question caught him off guard.

Joey paused.

Then shook his head.

"No…

Even if she was born from my ability—

she has her own life now.

No point disturbing that.

Besides, my presence would only raise questions."

He'd come to terms with it.

He was curious, sure—

What had become of that girl born from Gold Experience and some unknown Nen?

But even if he saw her,

there'd be no connection.

No meaning.

What did intrigue him—

Was the Nen user who helped create her.

"Kite. That person—the one who added the ability. Who was it?"

"Sambika. She's with the Association—an advanced Healer."

"She's interested in you too," Kite added.

"Once we're at HQ, you should meet her. She's a Virus Hunter, one of the top minds in bioenergy and healing."

Sambika…

Joey tried to recall.

Nothing.

He didn't remember a Sambika in Hunter × Hunter canon.

But a life energy expert?

Joey's hand drifted to his wallet.

Inside, the faint presence of Naru pulsed softly.

Maybe…

Sambika could help him understand Naru's existence.

He said nothing more.

Though not a licensed Hunter yet, Joey's status as an auxiliary was enough.

He didn't get the full benefits, but thanks to Nove, he lived like a VIP.

As they boarded the airship,

Joey was curious.

In East Gorteau, he'd seen jets.

Tanks.

But for long-distance travel—

this world always used airships.

A stylistic choice? Or practical?

Either way—

The comfort and amenities were leagues beyond any plane Joey had flown before.

He'd give the ride an 8 out of 10.

If only his wallet weren't so empty,

maybe it'd be a perfect ten.
