Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Separation and New Opportunity

After this event, the little fallen angel had simply gathered their belongings in silence.

Nobody mentioned or brought up anything related to the "order" given by him.

Sanguinius had tacitly followed Mittelt's example, to avoid creating an embarrassing situation.

In his past life, he didn't have many friends and no girlfriends to his credit because of his personality.

His only real sexual experience dated back to a drunken party at university, but he didn't remember much about it.

Sanguinius just knows that he woke up next to a face barely above average, and they were both naked.

Unfortunately, they couldn't keep in touch, because that bitch already had a boyfriend.

'I remember that Adrien was mad at me for stealing "my neighbor's" woman.'

A ridiculous accusation according to Sanguinius, since he was technically the victim in the story... at least to him.

Why this opinion?

There was an acquaintance of his who had seen the girl "dragging" him to the second floor despite his drunken state.

So, his sins are only drunkenness and lust.

Still not very glorious, but he wasn't a jerk, right?

Involuntarily, he smiled thinking back to Earth and the good old days, without making the connection between this incident and the loss of his wallet that night.

[Master, are you leaving?]

During his preparations, Cortana's voice echoed from one of the microphones scattered throughout the bunker.

Strangely, he could sense reluctance in her voice.

But Sanguinius quickly rejected the idea. He didn't think Cortana was sufficiently advanced in the 3K era to develop real emotions.

"Indeed, but I don't plan to leave you without tasks, beyond those already assigned," he said, giving a meaningful look toward a camera.

He had already checked the AI, and planned to come back from time to time to check its evolution in the entrusted projects.

After all, he couldn't abandon it without any sign of life like he did with Mittelt.

One was a fully autonomous adult with responsibilities toward an organization, and the other a creature barely 24 hours old.

[Thank you for your trust, master. I will use this freedom of action wisely.]

The AI's voice seemed happier this time.

'Besides that, I must avoid mixing pleasure and work.'

This is also the reason that pushed him to temporarily distance himself from Mittelt and not Cortana.

He could have visited her from time to time during his stay in Konosuba, but after that?

She would sooner or later become curious about where he was going, and she would ask increasingly sensitive questions.

That's why Sanguinius didn't jump at the chance to "eat" Mittelt.

It would literally evolve their relationship, unless he behaved like the previous owner of the body and had fun with her without forming any real bond.

Just thinking about it, Sanguinius frowned in disgust, unable to approve of this approach.

Mittelt isn't stupid and she will sooner or later ask questions about knowledge as deep as Warhammer 40K science.

But, it's just not the right time.

'Everything will be settled when I have a force strong enough to not worry about it.'

This thought led him to ask himself another question.

Since when has he been so obsessed with power?

In reality, he could just reach a strength equivalent to Azazel and remain neutral during the great war, right?

He doesn't really need to trigger or participate in a large-scale war counting countless deaths in the biblical pantheon.

Damn, the strongest beings of the biblical pantheon died during this war.

The more Sanguinius thought about it, the more he found his actions strange, too similar to those of the former holder of this body.

'I was never really interested in lolis, but...'

He had always appreciated generous curves, and his interest in Kalawarna came from there. But lolis?

That probably came from the previous owner of the body.

This guy seemed to be a dude addicted to the "forbidden" and to "risks."

'I'll still participate in this war.'

Finally, Sanguinius concluded that it was pointless to overthink the details.

Better to live this life to the fullest, right?

Unfortunately, his mental debate or philosophical crisis was interrupted by a certain dragon.

[I'm just THE dragon: I was able to collect the spiritual fruits (or The Sage Pill) in "the Ore Kingdom of the Sage Realm," but the quantity of tears is limited.]

[I'm just THE dragon has sent you a word of items.]

[Baal's false light: thank you, and I really hope that my prophecy will be foiled by you.]

Empty words of consolation, but Ogre accepted them without showing a sign of discontent.

[I'm just THE dragon: thank you and have fun with this human.]

[Baal's false light: I intend to.]

After this exchange, he didn't take long to finish all his business in the bunker.

'The mechanical factory isn't completely finished, but Cortana can complete it with the other details.'

He headed toward the exit, after finding Mittelt.

The atmosphere between the duo was awkward, but Sanguinius forced himself to ignore it and kept a nonchalant expression.

"Here we are," he said, after passing through the last door.

Mittelt didn't react to his words, but she avoided his gaze even more once they were outside.

"Yes, and I hope to meet your expectations, lord," she finally said in a professional tone, but there was something more inside her voice.

Something different, that Sanguinius perceived.

'We can only pretend, huh.'

Their relationship will clearly never be the same again. It's a situation similar to a guy in the friendzone, who tried to get out of his friend status and failed.

A small twinge of pain appeared in Sanguinius's heart, which he quickly dismissed.

"I almost forgot."

He took out a small clay container, which contained a bit of Ogre's tear and a spiritual fruit (The Sage Pill).

"What is this?" Mittelt seemed confused by the sudden gift, but her face lit up in a way unknown to Sanguinius.

He had already seen countless facets of this girl, but never this type of smile.

"A means of help in your physical training. And please... don't neglect this aspect."

He slowly stroked Mittelt's head, as she held his objects very close to her, in silence.

"I... thank you... lord."

Unfortunately, Sanguinius had already disappeared without listening to Mittelt's words.

Yes, it was intentional.

Sanguinius didn't want to weaken the will of his future partner, nor have awkward emotional separations.

After all, he learned from a wise ninja that a man must avoid blunting his determination.

....

"Welcome to Axel!!"

At the moment of his appearance, Sanguinius was welcomed by Kazuma and Aqua in an inn room.

'Indeed, Kazuma isn't poor in this timeline.'

Normally, Kazuma should still be living in the stable for some time, even after defeating a general of the demon king.

Sanguinius remembers that Ryu Habin had to help him during this event, and they had even earned a good amount of existence points.

'Maybe with Ryu here, he didn't have to pay compensation for destroying a good part of the city.'

That was the most logical conclusion.

"Hey Kazuma, is this pretty blond guy a bit slow? Why hasn't he reacted for a while?"

"Shh, idiot, this guy is a bit dangerous."

Sanguinius just smiled "kindly" watching the legendary duo from his past life criticizing him in the same room.
