Chapter 52 - Idiot!

A Night of Confessions and Destiny

The night was calm, the cool breeze whispering through the trees as the distant sounds of the city hummed in the background. Underneath the dim glow of streetlights, Nick paced back and forth outside the college gates, nerves evident in his restless movements.

"Brother, wish me luck," he said, turning to Wick, who leaned against his car with his arms crossed. "Tonight, I'm going to propose to Varsha."

Wick glanced at him, the corners of his lips twitching slightly. "All the best, dude. But… better come back with victory."

Nick's eyes narrowed. "That doesn't seem like a very supportive thing to say right now."

Wick smirked. "I'm just saying the odds aren't exactly in your favor."

Nick groaned. "Come on, bro. At least cheer me up a little!"

Wick sighed and finally relented. "I know you can do it."

That was all Nick needed. He took a deep breath, straightened his posture, and walked toward the courtyard, where Varsha stood with a few of her friends. His heart pounded, but he forced himself to keep going.

The Confession

As he approached, Varsha turned to him, a small smile playing on her lips. "Hm? Say what you wanted to tell me about..."

Nick swallowed hard, his throat dry, but when he spoke, his voice was steady.

"I don't know the perfect words, and I don't have some grand speech prepared. But what I do know is this—I don't want to spend another day pretending my heart isn't already yours. I don't care if I'm not the first person to make you smile, but I want to be the one who makes you smile the longest. If you need time, I'll wait. If you're unsure, I'll prove it to you every single day. But no matter what, my feelings won't change. Because it's you, Varsha. It's always been you."

His hands clenched at his sides, waiting for her response.

But before she could say anything, the fear of rejection got the best of him, and he turned on his heel and walked away—leaving Varsha standing there, stunned.

Intervention by Wick and Shristi

Nick returned to Wick, exhaling heavily as he relayed everything. "I told her. I don't know if that was the right move, but I just— I couldn't stand there waiting for rejection."

Wick raised an eyebrow, then without a word, stood up. "Come on, Shristi."

Shristi, who had been quietly observing, frowned. "Where are we going?"

"To fix this idiot's mess."

Varsha's Answer

They found Varsha still standing where Nick had left her, arms crossed, her expression unreadable.

"Varsha," Wick started, his voice as casual as ever. "Look, if you reject him now, he's going to make it his life's mission to go out there and find the most perfect, most beautiful girl just to try and get over you." He paused, then smirked. "But you know why he won't succeed?"

Varsha raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Because for him, you are that girl."

Varsha's lips parted slightly, her gaze softening.

Then, she huffed. "I know that, but that idiot just walked away without even listening to my answer."

There was a beat of silence.

Then Wick burst into laughter. Shristi tried to hold back her own laugh, but the way Varsha rolled her eyes made it impossible.

Varsha sighed, shaking her head. "I swear, he's the stupidest guy I've ever met."

Shristi nudged her playfully. "But you like that about him, don't you?"

Varsha bit her lip, trying to suppress her smile. "Maybe."

A New Beginning

His heart almost leaped out of his chest when he saw Varsha standing there, arms folded.

"Nick."

He hesitated. "V-Varsha?"

She gave him an unimpressed look. "You confessed your feelings and then ran away? Really?"

Nick scratched his head awkwardly. "I… I thought you needed time to think—"

"I didn't," she cut him off.

Nick blinked. "Wait… what?"

Varsha took a step closer. "I didn't need time, because I already knew my answer the moment you said those words."

Nick's heart pounded. "And… that answer is?"

Varsha didn't say anything. Instead, she grabbed his hand, intertwined their fingers, and pulled him closer.

"Yes, you idiot."

Nick stared at her, stunned, before a slow grin spread across his face. "You said yes?"

Varsha rolled her eyes. "Do I need to spell it out?"

Without thinking, Nick let out a joyful laugh before suddenly lifting her off the ground, spinning her around. "SHE SAID YES!"

Varsha gasped, then burst into laughter as he twirled her.

Varsha squealed, half-laughing, half-scolding him. "Nick! Put me down, you moron!"

From a distance, Shristi clapped, nudging Wick. "Well, that was dramatic."

Wick smirked. "You expected anything less?"

As Nick finally set Varsha down, she playfully smacked his arm. "Next time, at least wait for my answer before running away, idiot."

Nick chuckled. "No need. I'm never letting you go now."

The night sky stretched above them, a silent witness to the start of something beautiful. And as Wick and Shristi walked away, their own lingering glances held a story yet to be told.
