Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Accident

"Alright class, today we're heading to a private museum just outside of Austin. It's been around for over a hundred years..."

History teacher Elizabeth was giving a pretty unenthusiastic introduction to our field trip destination on the school bus.

None of the students on the school bus were listening attentively; they were either chatting or playing around.

The interesting thing was in the back row, where Roy, Jennifer, and Needy were sitting.

The two girls were sitting on either side of Roy, each holding one of his hands, not even trying to hide it.

Roy wasn't sure how it had gotten to this point. It seemed like Needy had suddenly felt a bit insecure and started being more forward.

And Jennifer, seeing Needy being so proactive, didn't back down either.

Unfortunately, Needy didn't know that not only had Jennifer successfully made the first move, but another woman had already taken Roy's second and third 'kills'.

Needy: I will win!

"Hey, are you three together already?"

A blonde female student suddenly turned around and leaned over her seat to look at the three of them.

After being called out, Needy was still a little embarrassed and wanted to pull her hand back.

But Roy wouldn't let Needy get her way and firmly held her hand.

Needy had no choice but to turn her face to the window and pretend nothing had happened. In reality, her face was already red to the roots of her ears.

"Yeah, got a problem with that, Carly?"

Leave it to Jennifer to shut things down. Her confident "Got a problem with that?" made Carly back off.

Yeah, Carly was also a well-known beauty at Oak High School, but she was a cheerleader and was quite afraid of Jennifer, the former captain.

"Don't be like that, Jennifer. I wasn't trying to steal Roy from you!"

"Then what did you want to say?"

Carly stuck out her tongue, looking very playful.

"I was just a little curious, how are you guys going to figure out the whole marriage thing later on?"

That was a tough one to answer. Roy couldn't very well say that he was a non-marriage advocate; that kind of persona wasn't very popular in that era.

At this time, a brown-haired boy also turned around to join the conversation.

"Why don't you just join the Mormon Church? They support polygamy."

This brown-haired boy was called Wade. He used to be one of Jennifer's simps, but after Jennifer got closer to Roy, he gave up and started pursuing Carly.

He probably deliberately interjected because of Carly, but what the kid said made some sense.

The full name of the Mormon Church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and its headquarters are in Salt Lake City, Utah, America.

The biggest impression the outside world has of this denomination is that it believes in the system of polygamy.

Although in the 1920s and 1930s, the Mormon leadership abandoned the tradition of polygamy in order to integrate into mainstream American society, there are still some traditional Mormon believers who choose to adhere to the tradition.

Yeah right, mainstream American society is way more complicated than that.

"That's a good idea. Maybe I should take a trip to Utah!"

Wade was just joking, but he didn't expect Roy to actually agree with him. Now it was his turn to not know what to say.

Jennifer looked at Roy with a slightly surprised expression.

"Are you serious?"

The religious atmosphere in Texas is relatively conservative. People here generally believe in Catholicism or Protestantism. Mormonism is considered non-mainstream here, and can even be said to be heretical.

"Worst case scenario, we move to the Utah highlands and build a big house on a deserted mountain!"

Roy looked at Jennifer with a playful smile, obviously also joking.

After all, the three of them still had to go to college, and after graduation, they would have to work and earn money. There was no way they could really go into seclusion in Utah.

But after hearing Roy's joke, Jennifer and Needy simultaneously began to imagine what their secluded life together would be like.

Suddenly, it felt like that might not be a bad idea.

Seeing the happy looks on Jennifer and Needy's faces, Carly felt a bit bored. Just as she was about to turn around, the school bus suddenly shook violently, followed by a sharp braking.

Carly and Wade, because of their posture, fell directly off their seats.

"Ouch!"

Many students also hit the seats in front of them due to the sudden braking. Only Roy, relying on his strong physique and reaction speed, managed to protect Jennifer and Needy in time.

Oh, and there was also Elizabeth. The beautiful teacher was sitting at the front as if nothing had happened, her body not even moving.

The sudden braking happened so quickly though, everyone was too caught up in it to notice.

"Driver, what's going on?"

The students all started questioning the driver.

The driver was a white, chubby man with a beard that connected to his mustache. He looked a little embarrassed.

"Sorry, it seems like the school bus has broken down. I'll go take a look!"

The school bus Roy and the others were on was originally at the back of the convoy. The school buses in front quickly drove away and didn't notice the one behind had stopped.

The sudden situation made the students feel a little irritable, so Elizabeth had no choice but to stand up and try to calm everyone down.

"Classmates, please be patient. The school bus will be fixed soon!"

Unfortunately, half an hour later, the driver returned to the bus with bad news, covered in sweat.

"There's a problem with the engine, and there are no spare parts on the bus!"

Immediately, a male student shouted.

"What the heck! Are you telling me our field trip is just going to be looking at the forest by the side of the road?"

"We can notify a nearby town to send a tow truck. It should be here soon!"

Elizabeth continued to appease the students, but then a student took out their phone, looked at the signal, and was proven wrong again.

"Damn it! There's no cell service here!"

That's American infrastructure for you. Once you leave cities and towns, there's basically no cell service. Even many remote small towns don't have cell towers because setting them up is too expensive.

The students on the bus immediately started to clamor. They had been so excited to go to the museum, and now this happened halfway there. Anyone would be frustrated.

"Shut up!"

Finally, Roy couldn't stand the noise on the bus anymore, and one word made the bus quiet down.

Yeah, Roy's performance in the boxing match had spread throughout the entire town of Waterfall. The students all knew his fighting power, so no one dared to mess with him.

"Do you really think all this yelling is going to fix the bus?"

Roy's gaze swept over the few students who had been shouting the loudest. They quickly lowered their heads, not daring to meet his eyes.

Sometimes, you just need a strong presence to maintain order.

Elizabeth looked at Roy gratefully, but Roy felt like the beautiful teacher's eyes were more like a wink.

"Mr. Driver, Ms. Elizabeth, let's step off the bus and talk."

Hearing this, Elizabeth and the driver didn't refuse, and the three of them got off the bus to discuss solutions.

"Mr. Driver, are there any towns nearby?"

"I'm not very familiar with this area, but the GPS navigation shows there are no towns nearby."

Elizabeth rubbed her forehead, feeling very tired.

"This is so troublesome! I hate trouble!"

At this moment, a pickup truck drove over from the opposite direction.

Carly Jones (Elisha Cuthbert)
