Moments later, everyone was awakened and left their tents, standing back-to-back in a tight circle.
"Principal Ke, is this white mist released by the Moonlit Mist Fox?" Dugu Bo couldn't help but ask.
The Moonlit Mist Fox was an extremely rare soul beast that rarely appeared within the sight of human soul masters. There were very few records of such soul beasts on the continent.
Even Dugu Bo only knew of its existence and nothing more.
Without seeing the soul beast itself, Ke Jie didn't dare to jump to conclusions.
"The mist here disrupts my perception. Whatever's releasing it must have at least 50,000 years of cultivation," Ke Jie said as he summoned his martial soul, scanning the surroundings warily.
"My perception has been affected too. To think such a powerful creature could be lurking here without me noticing—this place isn't supposed to have many ten-thousand-year soul beasts," Dugu Bo muttered grimly, his expression darkening.
"If even you, Lord Dugu, are affected, then we're likely dealing with a 70,000-year-old soul beast," Ke Jie said gravely.
Ning Tianchen and the others who had previously trained at Shrek Academy were somewhat used to encountering high-level soul beasts like the Titan Giant Ape, so they weren't overly nervous.
However, Feng Xiaotian and the others were facing a soul beast of this caliber for the first time, and their anxiety was palpable.
"Should we all take my flying mushroom sausages and leave this place?" Oscar whispered softly.
"No. We can't perceive our surroundings. If this really is a 70,000-year-old soul beast, we'd just become sitting ducks in the air," Ke Jie immediately rejected the idea. "Instead, let's all stick together and retreat in one direction. First, we need to get out of the area covered by the white mist, then we'll figure out what to do next."
As they retreated, Ning Tianchen couldn't help but ask, "Old man, is this mist poisonous?"
Dugu Bo frowned deeply. "If it wasn't toxic, it wouldn't affect our perception. But this kind of poison won't kill us—it will wear off once we're out of the mist."
As he spoke, Chen Huayu and Zhu Zhuqing suddenly stopped in their tracks, clutching their heads and groaning in pain.
"What's wrong?" Ning Tianchen quickly asked.
"I feel like I can no longer tell which way is which," Feng Xiaotian said. He spun around in confusion before finally "finding" Ning Tianchen's position.
Ke Jie immediately understood. "Mental paralysis—this is a spiritual toxin. The soul beast releasing this mist is most likely the Moonlit Mist Fox."
Ning Tianchen, having absorbed the effects of the Autumn Water Dew, possessed mental strength far surpassing that of other soul masters at his level. Additionally, since the mist was spread over a wide area, the mental paralysis effect was diluted, leaving him unaffected.
"Look, there's a white figure over there!" Oscar suddenly pointed ahead and shouted loudly.
Dugu Bo slammed his foot into the ground, unleashing a surge of soul power that dispersed the surrounding mist.
He didn't know how many soul beasts were hidden within the mist, but this action undoubtedly exposed their position.
Next, they would face the soul beasts' attacks.
To be safe, Dugu Bo quickly activated his true martial soul form.
The Jade Phosphorus Serpent Emperor rose into the air, creating an "absolute isolation zone" around them, keeping the mist at bay.
After a few breaths, the group's symptoms began to improve.
The Jade Phosphorus Serpent Emperor flicked its tongue and glared coldly ahead.
In the mist, a white shadow darted about, invisible to those with poor eyesight.
"It's a White Fox—how could it possibly be this kind of soul beast?!" Ke Jie was stunned, convinced his reasoning couldn't be wrong.
"Behind you."
Dugu Bo manipulated the Jade Phosphorus Serpent Emperor's tail, whipping it fiercely toward another soul beast that had attacked from behind.
Ke Jie snapped out of his daze and exclaimed in shock, "A 70,000-year-old Moonlit Mist Fox!"
The White Fox closely resembled the Moonlit Mist Fox, but the key difference lay in the nearly invisible milky-white patterns on the latter's body.
While the White Fox was merely a spirit-type soul beast, the Moonlit Mist Fox could release paralyzing white mist.
Dugu Bo sneered. "I never expected this region to have become your territory."
With the situation urgent, Ke Jie didn't hesitate and shouted loudly, "Lord Bone Douluo, we need your assistance!"
"Bone Grandpa?" Ning Tianchen and Ning Rongrong turned to look at him, their faces full of confusion.
Instantly, a spatial rift opened in the sky, and Gu Rong emerged from it.
"Old Poison Master, there are only two soul beasts here. That White Fox has 50,000 years of cultivation—it's yours to handle."
Before revealing himself, Gu Rong had already noticed the group's predicament.
Hidden high in the air, he conducted a thorough investigation and figured out the situation within the mist.
The Bone Dragon martial soul let out a roar, flapping its bone wings rapidly to clear a path in front of the group.
Without hesitation, Ke Jie immediately led the group away.
---
Once they escaped the range of the mist, Ke Jie called for everyone to stop. "Wait a moment. There should be a Moonlit Mist Fox nest nearby."
"Principal, what's going on with Bone Grandpa?" Ning Rongrong ignored his words and quickly voiced her confusion.
Ke Jie briefly explained—it was Ning Fengzhi's arrangement.
Pausing, he continued, "The Moonlit Mist Fox is a communal soul beast. Its nest might contain descendants with cultivation levels of a thousand years or more. While Bone Douluo and Poison Douluo hold them off, we'll search the area carefully."
"Isn't this too risky?" Ning Tianchen couldn't help but ask.
They had barely escaped the jaws of death, and now they wanted to venture deeper into the lair—it was far too dangerous.
Ke Jie smiled at the group. "Playing it too safe will make it impossible to hunt the Moonlit Mist Fox. This is the perfect soul ring for Yu Die and Cai Die. The choice is yours."
Feng Xiaotian suggested, "Tianchen, the stronger the Yu Die sisters are, the stronger our team becomes. Why not give it a try?"
Ning Tianchen countered, "How can we be sure there aren't older Moonlit Mist Foxes in the nest?"
If they lacked sufficient strength and rashly charged into the soul beasts' nest, it would be tantamount to suicide.
After a brief silence, a voice broke the stillness. "What are you all doing here?"
"Old man, you're done already?" Ning Tianchen couldn't help but ask.
A 50,000-year-old spirit-type soul beast would be extremely difficult for Dugu Bo to handle—it shouldn't have ended so quickly.
Dugu Bo chuckled. "Bone Douluo lured them away. Let's go—we'll leave the forest first."
"Wait."
Ke Jie repeated the plan once more.
Dugu Bo countered, "How confident are you?"
Ke Jie trusted his research findings.
If there were no younger Moonlit Mist Foxes in the nest, they wouldn't have actively attacked humans.
This type of soul beast was highly intelligent and wouldn't expose itself recklessly in front of human powerhouses.
"So, even after Lord Dugu demonstrated his strength, they still didn't back down. That speaks volumes," Ke Jie reasoned.
Dugu Bo nodded thoughtfully, agreeing with his assessment.
With Dugu Bo present, their safety was guaranteed, and Ning Tianchen no longer objected.
The battle between Gu Rong and the two soul beasts caused quite a commotion, and the surrounding mist gradually dissipated under the impact of their soul power.
Ning Tianchen and the others concealed their presence and began searching for the location of the nest.
Suddenly, Ke Jie pointed toward a slope ahead.
