Chapter 17 - Girl’s Last Tour

To be honest, I wrote this snippet entirely for myself.

◇◇◇

Stepping through the square shaped portal cut out of reality, it winks out of existence behind me.

Once upon a time, such display of a supernatural phenomenon would have left me astonished and curious, but now, I do not even think anything about it. After centuries, it was bound to eventually lose its glamor after all.

I would say immortality is boring but that would mean that I'm lying to myself, there's always something to do, you just have to find it, all the better if you have companions who are also immortal, companions which I have.

And besides, anywhere and anything is infinitely better than the apocalyptic world we were once in.

The place I had appeared in was a dainty village located at the edge of this country's border, squat houses built with bricks and wood makes up the residence, the plethora of vineyards surrounding the village known for it's winemaking adds to it's beautiful aesthetic.

Overall, it has a sort of homey vibe to it.

I walk into the village with familiar strides, the late evening sun casting it's warm glow on me, my destination is the pub just up ahead.

I pass by some of the villagers who wave at me in greeting. I am not particularly acquainted with them, most of them just know me due to some inevitable reason.

Before I reach the pub, I can already hear the chatters coming from inside it, it seems it would not be easy today as well.

The pub is one of the biggest buildings in the village, a two storey building with a logo of two mugs hitting each other is displayed at the entrance. Since this village specialty is wine making, most of the inhabitants likes wine.

Travelers and adventurers also frequent the place, the fact that it also doubles as an eatery means that there are always guests around.

Opening the door, a dimly lit interior filled with wooden tables and chairs greets me, the smell of alcohol pervades my nose, string notes from a banjo and chatter fill the background.

Littered in the pub are people of various races, beast people, elves, dwarves and humans, races like these were a marvel to see for the first time many years ago, I still have the experience written on my diary, even though it's a feeling I can never forget.

"DRINK! DRINK! DRINK! DRINK! DRINK!"

These people gather around a table, cheering for a girl who is standing atop it, chugging down wine from the largest mug that this establishment has, said mug that should be heavy is held with only one hand while the other rests on her waist.

Messy blonde hair styled in a ponytail with an ahoge hanging at the top, a stupid looking face and obviously intoxicated light blue eyes. She wears a zipped up long sleeve black coat that has a hood, with grey fur around the edges of the hood, black pants and brown boots.

"PUUUUAHHHHH!!"

"UUUUUOOOHHHHHH!!!!!"

She finishes the drink as the spectators go wild with cheers.

That idiotic looking person over there is who I'm here for.

"FUHAHAHAH. I AM UNSTOPPABLE!" She starts laughing raising the mug to the air.

I notice some people are exchanging money in the background.

"AH! IT'S CHI-CHAN!!!" She notices me and jumps from the table, shooting straight for me, arms spread wide and mug forgotten.

She wraps me in a hug and starts rubbing her face against mine.

"Hehehe, I can see two Chi-chan in my dream."

"Just how much have you drank, Yuu? And this is not a dream!"

Meet Yuuri, my companion, a very laidback and whimsical girl, a girl as unpredictable as the wind.

Centuries ago, we had both been traveling in a war ridden world, scavenging for food and parts for our then transportation, all the while speculating about the "old world".

At the end of our journey amidst the winter snow and under the starry night, with no further plans in sight, we had laid under a cover, our warmth the only thing we had to share with each other.

That had been the end of our journey.

The end of our tour.

That was when it happened.

We got teleported— at that time, we didn't know what teleportation was— to a young boy who had been very excited to see us, I don't remember much from that day except the warm meals we had, I also remember that I had the most peaceful sleep ever with Yuu beside me.

That same boy taught us various things, he had told us he had a lot of companions and we were now one of them, we went on to go on different adventures, seeing things that we couldn't even imagine nor fathom.

He had saved us when we had been on the verge of death, when we had no direction to go anymore.

We have lived together ever since.

Yuu and I are both powerful enough that we can transverse various worlds with our own powers and that's just a tip of the iceberg.

Yes, we are strong, very strong.

Strong enough that alcohol should not affect us.

I give a stink eye to Yuu who is giggling to herself.

Sighs.

Yuu always comes to this place to drink. Even though she has duties that she must complete, she comes here to laze off.

"You are always so serious Chi-chan. Look, look, look, the wine is very delicious." She forces a mug of wine that appeared on her hand into my mouth and I'm forced to drink it.

This idiot.

"It's delicious isn't— Ow!"

I bonk the top of her head.

"Idiot Yuu…"

"Hehehe…But it was delicious wasn't it? I remember the first time we had alcohol. We didn't even know what it was at that time."

"…You're right."

Yuu always gets in a reminiscent mood when she's drunk, well, I don't really mind it.

"Here, Chi-chan." She passes me a mug of wine.

"Yuu, you know I'm here to take you back home right?"

So why are you trying to make me drink with you?

"It's okay, it's okay. Just for a bit, I want to drink with Chi-chan. Hehehe"

I sigh as I accept the mug. "I guess it can't be helped."

Giggling, she wraps me in a one hand embrace. "That's why I love you Chi-chan." She says and my face reddens a bit at that.

Stupid Yuu.

"YOSH!!! MORE DRINKS FOR EVERYONE!!!" Yuu shouts as the people present cheers.

I watch the scene with a little smile on my face, still in the embrace of Yuu.

I guess this isn't so bad every once in a while.
