Chapter - 37 The purge of the frosted glade (2)

'2'

I voiced,

Raising my gun I locked the long cylinder barrel towards the direction of the remaining man's head.

'3…' I remembered

Tearing his disbelieving gaze from the corpse of his comrade, the velvet-haired man's remaining thread of courage had snapped.

Giving hell to the memories of his fallen comrade, the velvet-haired man immediately leaped off the branch before darting towards a random direction in the woods.

Directions didn't matter,

Time didn't matter,

People didn't matter,

His eliminated comrades lacked matter!

'I don't wan–'

–Bang!

The bang of the gun echoed through the still forest.

–Pusssh!

–Pulppp!

–Thud,

Collapsing onto the blue-bladed grass the now headless figure of the Velvet-haired began to spasm for several seconds.

From a distance away Alex watched.

The dense array of brush had covered his swift stalk against the small duo.

Closing his eyes Alex offered a small nod and a quick reciting of a self-made blessing.

He had never been religious, yet, for some odd reason, this situation had given him an amazing urge to do so.

'I hope your next death won't be in selfish vain…'

Realing himself from his idle position, Alex jumped from the branch he perched on and onto the soft bed of grass below.

With slow uncared-for steps Alex walked towards the corpses of people he held no animosity towards, Identities he would never get the chance to know. People who could have had families, relatives, or dependents… were killed with selfish incentives.

His steps soon slowed as he stood before the woman with chalked yellow hair.

Such an annexed face, unbridled emotions of fear only hung on the canvas of flesh that was her face.

Reaching for the woman's head, Alex pulled out the combat knife that lodged itself within her eye cavity.

–Squish!

The blood flow had since clotted within her eye cavity.

'Ughh disgusting…'

The smell of stool, piss, and other discharges emitted from the woman soon to fester corpse.

Forcing the feeling of disgust down, Alex began to rummage through the pockets of the women's garments.

"You won't need such worldly belongings since you're dead," Alex mumbled as he grasped a small metallic box.

Stuffing the few items the woman had on her into her satchel.

Looking up and down the corpse Alex's gaze landed on her boots,

"They look my size…"

Scrunching his brows Alex felt disgusted by his previous statement.

"What's wrong with me…"

Alex said, palming his face simultaneously, shaking his head.

Looting the chalk yellow colored haired woman at till completion Alex continued this same action of deprecating the corpses of those he killed.

The sickly-skinned man had no possessions; he was utterly useless. In contrast, the Velvet-haired man also lacked any belongings stashed in his garments—no money, no weapons, no valuable objects—he was completely bare.

After finishing his search, Alex offered a final, brief comment before rushing toward the direction that Leo had barreled in.

Several minutes passed as he followed the man-made trail of broken branches and small, overlooked bullet holes in the woods.Soon the venture of rushing and maneuvering over the natural obstacles of the glade came to a stand-still.

Eventually, the frantic rush of maneuvering around the natural obstacles of the glade reached a halt, and my gaze met a view of an expansive field of blue, the sky's vast tapestry was black and splattered with white blue and ethereal purple.

My eyes were drawn to a figure standing about twenty feet away—Leo, a silhouette against the kaleidoscope of colors staining the sky.
