Chapter - 36 The purge of the frosted glade

「Alex looked forward wordlessly, indifferent to his action .」

'I'll kill them…'

'I've done nothing wrong…'

'I should hold no guilt towards my actions,'

'It was either I or them, whenever I kill them or not it will hold no difference towards forsaking my own life.'

Alex had already tarnished his already fragile moral compass.

That bitter nauncing feeling no longer passed through his veins or nagged Alex's mind.

Guilt or such lofty negative emotions no longer toil my mind.

Only seconds had passed since I killed the yellow-haired haired-woman, Leo brandished his own short sword and knife.

Utilizing our conventional weaponry would only hinder our battle strength, the combat knife and handgun were both useful tools to stealthily and swiftly slaughter our adversaries.

"Ready your arms!!"

Yelled an unknown hooded man from their small squad.

His voice was empty and quivered, rationality seemed absent from the man. Only if he had strategically retreated… unfortunately it was already far too late.

"Stop!"

Retorted the sickly-skinned man in a tone of eerie calm.

"What the hell do you mean to stop!"

Spat the hooded man in a scowl

"Shut the fuck up and keep vigilance, can't you see their maneuvering in a way so that they can ambush us!"

Glaring at the sickly white men the Hooded man clenched his teeth before tearing his quivering gaze as he forced himself into submission

This was not the time or place to make a retort.

The chances of death between the small group were staggeringly high, they lacked combat prowess, and yet their superior officer had deemed it a fitting idea to send the weak to the jaws of death.

Such an unfortunate and yet fitting climax for a life blemished with nothing more than a mundane routine and constant ridicule.

With his gun gripped and held at eye level, Alex began to discharge his will into the surrounding cloud of dormant energy.

The sensations of the energies within the air all boasted unique and abstract feelings and thoughts.

Using his now-excluded will, Alex manipulated only Aura excluding all other forms of energy.

With tinges of aura now tugging freely from their idle restraints, a small mass of dull ethereal crimson, gradually they took shape molding into hair-sized threads that were slowly and gingerly commanded to further layer themselves, before seeping into the small cleft in the gun's exterior.

{[][][][][][]}

{MAX → maximum threshold sufficed}

Viewing the message I readied myself for further confrontation.

—'!!!'

Before I could position my body into a proper stance to lunge toward the shaken adversaries Leo had already taken action.

With a bolt of relentless maneuvering toward the group, Leo positioned himself purposefully behind the dense wood in order for it to act as natural shielding.

–Crack!

–Swoosh!

With Leo's reckless movement through the glade, the hooded man was able to perceive the quick spurge of oscillating sounds raptured from the crumbling sound of leaves, and other natural nuances.

With an absent-minded set of insituanous movements, the hooded man raised his rifle before immediately releasing a hail of rounds towards where he assumed the person was.

–die

–die

–die

–die!

This was the mantra the hooded man vented and he impulsively charged towards Leo ignoring his own companions' pleas.

Alex glared at the unexpected pandemonium, annoyed and bitter. He hadn't expected Leo to foolishly charge without warning or hay-say, yet, wasn't that exactly what he was about to do?

「Oh I guess I'll let Leo take care of the hooded one, as I deal with the rest of the scum.」

–Huuu

Tensing his back and core, Alex readied his trigger finger before lunging briskly through the dense screen of covering wood.

With Leo as the current red herring, Alex was able to take advantage of the excess noise emanating from the loud 'tings' of disjointed and rapid gunfire.

'Aim'

While constantly keeping quick moving I gradually steadied my aim with the gun barrel towards the head of the sickly white-skinned man.

Closing one eye I focused towards the microscopic connection I endeared due to the limited passageway etched onto the gun's shaft.

[ I have already killed a person… and yet… I feel nothing ]

Channeling most of the gun-hoarded energy reserves into one of the chrome bullets I fired.

–Bang!

One bullet equated to one life, and seconds of work vanquished a story written over the course of struggling years.

I took such a life.

–Pop!

–Gush!

With a visage etched in pure terror, the velvet-haired man stood frozen, lost in disbelief and dread as he watched his comrade's newly donned visage.
