Elena did not know how to reply to King Killian the whole time, so she did not say anything, and when he was done, she just watched him leave with a sad expression on his face.
She'd raised her hand to stop him though, but decided to just let him go.
With a heavy sigh, she raked her fingers through her hair. "Am I being too hard on him?" she muttered. "Yes, he disappeared without warning, and none of this would've happened if he'd stayed. But...maybe he truly had a good reason?"
She flopped onto her bed, the weight of guilt settling over her like a blanket.
"Maybe he truly left to protect me... and just couldn't say it."
Her brows furrowed, and she shook her head. "No, no…I'm not doing this right now. I'm too tired to think straight," she whispered, forcing herself to push the thoughts aside.
Glancing around the room, her chest tightened. "I can't believe I'm back here… after everything that happened."
