"It used to be. She didn't tell me because she doesn't want me to abandon her."
"Would you abandon Jenna if you knew where Mom was buried?"
"Immediately."
"Dad, but that's awful."
"She knows I only married her because she gave me hope that one day she would tell me."
"Daddy, Jenna really loves you. Of course she'll hide where she buried Mom's body, since she knows you're only with her because of that."
"She's sick, Anna. That's not love. When you love someone, you want to see them happy. And not hold them back for selfish reasons."
"You seem so happy when you're together that I never imagined you were going through a drama."
"She's not bad company, and I didn't say I'm unhappy with her... Perhaps if she had revealed herself to me and not blackmailed me, I might have fallen in love with her. But when you believe you're under an obligation, that feeling nullifies the chances of love being born."
"I fell in love with Adam, even though I was held captive in his house..."
"Because you never felt that anyone loved you, and you fell in love with the first man who gave you a little extra attention. Adam fell in love with you too, because you both didn't have your hearts set on someone else."
"And what's the point of being in love with someone who can no longer be with you? Jenna told me that you even wanted to have children with her..."
"Never. I told her that so that she would believe that I loved her and wanted to start a family with her, and that led her to tell me where the body was. I had a vasectomy. And before that, I used condoms so skillfully that no woman ever noticed."
"So you're both living a lie. One deceiving the other. You for answers and she for love..."
"As you said before... For just one body." Anna's father said and went back into the house.
Anna let herself stand there, leaning against the car, waiting for Adonis, while images of Jenna, lying in a coffin, danced through her thoughts. Until that moment, she hadn't known that she had such a fondness for her. There was something about her that was reminiscent of motherhood. She had been his friend at Adam's mansion. She knew how to give good advice and never tried to take her away from her father. She thought about giving her father children, just to satisfy him, without knowing that there was no such possibility. She was as deluded and deceived as her father. Anna believed that the memory he had of his mother alive was much more valuable than the location of an empty body. He had no right to compare Jenna to Sarah. It was a great insult. Jenna was a woman of value. Henry also had faults. He had been using Jenna, all those years, to get an answer. And no matter what he said, she accepted the situation out of love, not selfishness.
Anna watched Adonis leave the old house with his father and follow him to a black car, which she hadn't realized was there until just then. She didn't stop to look around, because she always left in convoy, and didn't keep count of how many cars were coming with her. Adonis bent down and talked to his father for a while after he got into the car and drove towards him. The other car pulled out and passed her. She couldn't see who was inside, but Anna sensed that her father was in a hurry to end Jenna's life, and she decided that she needed to do something to help her and waited anxiously for Adonis to reach her.
"What did my father say to you, Adonis? What kind of relationship do you have? How do you circumvent Adam's vision? I need to know if I can trust you, because I'm sure neither Adam nor Henry can. They may make it seem like they trust you for answers, but they're both bad men, and they'll kill you in the end."
Adonis stared at Anna with debauchery.
"So, with two powerful enemies out to kill me, I can't make you third in line, right? I don't question your loyalty to the Alpha, even though I know you're cheating on him with Max, mind your own business Anna. You give me enough extra trouble as it is." Adonis said and opened the car door, gesturing for her to get in.
Anna got into the car with Adonis, a little hurt by his words, but knowing that he was right. Her anxiety and worry only increased as his silence during the journey reached the limit she could bear. And she thought of a way to warn Jenna so that she could get away as quickly as possible.
"Adonis... Can I borrow your cell phone? Adam won't let me have one because he's afraid I'll keep in touch with his brother..." Anna asked, without disguising her anxiety.
Adonis continued to pay attention to the road, and after a while in silence, when Anna thought he wasn't going to answer her, she heard his quiet voice say;
"If Adam won't allow it, why do you think I'm going to disobey him, attract his wrath, and undermine the trust he's placed in me?" He asked sarcastically.
"Because you didn't seem to care about that trust when you helped get Max into my room, and also because I thought we were... friends."
Adonis punched the steering wheel, startling Anna. Apparently he wasn't as calm as he looked.
"Damn it, Anna! I know what you want the cell phone for, and I can tell you it's useless. If you had the slightest chance of saving your stepmother, of course I'd help you."
"Why do you think I don't have a chance?"
"Because I heard your father on the phone. He's already given orders for his men to keep an eye on her, discreetly, until he arrives. Your warning could make things worse for her."
"What do you think of all this? Do you think he'll have the courage to take the life of someone who's devoted so much to him? After all, she's his wife and she loves him!"
"Anna... he'll kill her, without a second thought."
"He can't do that! I'll turn to Adam... Maybe he can help me convince Dad to spare her life."
