The elderly woman was the first to taste. She picked up the fork with a reverent kind of curiosity and cut into Charlotte's dish, lifting a bite to her mouth with slow precision.
She chewed. Swallowed. Then looked up, eyes wide.
"Oh," she said, softly at first. Then louder, with a smile breaking across her face. "Oh my, this is delightful! So full of flavor—yet it feels light. Like I'm not cheating on my blood pressure!"
Laughter rippled through the room.
The teenage boy in the chef's coat went next. He was all nerves and barely nineteen, but the moment he tasted the consommé, his brows shot up.
"Whoa," he muttered. "I—I thought this was gonna be bland. No offense! But…" He took another bite. "This is crazy. It's so clean but layered. Like—like soup wearing a tuxedo."
The audience laughed again. Even the cameraman chuckled.
