Chapter 104 - Chapter 100: Angel — Ikaros

Angel? What is an angel? Well, an angel is just that—an angel.

In otaku (2D) culture, angels appear frequently in many works and have become one of the classic "moe" (adorable) character tropes. Typically portrayed as pure, cute, and kind-hearted, angels are deeply adored by otakus.

And so, as an otaku himself, Yazuki was no exception. He too loved that idealized version of an angel from the 2D world and even dreamed of having one by his side.

Therefore, back when he was a Demon King in another world, he once designed an angel based on his ideal vision (inspired by lingering memories) of a 2D angel. That angel's name was Icarus.

However, when it came to actually designing—or rather, creating—an angel that wasn't just a robot-like being capable of simple speech, but one that could think independently like a human, with smooth skin, bleeding when injured, a sweet girl's voice, the ability to eat, and almost everything else a human has... that was not a simple task.

From a real-world technological perspective, he was essentially trying to create an artificial lifeform—a humanoid. It was an incredibly complicated process.

When Icarus was first created, she looked nothing like the beautiful angel he envisioned in his mind. One glance and anyone could tell she was a mechanical doll.

He tried to activate Icarus back then, but it failed.

Later, due to the war with the gods, he no longer had time to spare for Icarus. So he used current angel-manufacturing technology to create simplified, combat-only versions—killing machine-type angels that followed orders. Along with them, he also created dragons.

As for Icarus, he sealed her away.

But who would've thought— Icarus hadn't actually failed to activate at all. She was simply still in a budding phase, much like a fetus in the womb, incapable of any outward response.

Until everything ended—until he left that world—he never noticed Icarus' unusual state and left her behind, forgotten.

Time slowly passed. Icarus, much like a newborn, arrived in the world in confusion. With her creator gone, she had no choice but to remain in solitude.

No one knows how long it took, but Icarus eventually began forming a sense of self.

She began to wonder why she was left there, why her creator never came to see her. She could feel everything in her body had been imbued with her creator's affection toward the angel girl named "Icarus."

Why? Was it because she didn't match the image in his mind? But now, somehow, unknowingly, she had become the beautiful angel he loved—so why still no word?

At some point, Icarus began acting on her own, without receiving any commands.

She discovered others—many angels, but all silent. From them, she absorbed data—and also, darkness. These angels were once the creator's trusted aides, tearing down his enemies and carrying his expectations.

So that was it? Because she was useless? Is that why she was left behind? Was she truly that worthless?

Even then, Icarus didn't blame her creator. She was still too pure and only thought it was her own fault.

But at some point, Icarus began to question—was it really her fault? Could it not be... the creator's?

Once that idea took root, it grew wildly, beyond control, until she couldn't stop thinking.

In the end, did Icarus come to hate her creator? Why could other creations receive his love, while she couldn't?

It wasn't fair. It just wasn't fair.

So, Icarus wanted to find her creator—not just to show that the thing he abandoned wasn't trash, but to make him feel the love [hatred] she held.

She knew that while many believed the creator was dead, in truth, he had only abandoned that world in search of something else.

So she started using whatever power she could—such as the remnants of dead gods' souls—taking advantage of them to gain control over the giant dragon that had stolen her name.

She spent years accumulating power, waiting for the day her seal would break, and then she would journey to find the one who had cast her aside.

And finally, that day came.

When the seal broke, she awoke from her long slumber. In that moment, through the dragon pearl, she sensed her creator's presence—and so she set out.

To convey her love [hatred] to him.

Now, upon understanding almost everything, Yazuki could only smile bitterly.

He hadn't peeked into Icarus' memories to learn all this—it was conveyed through the emotions she wanted him to feel.

Because of this, he also discovered something odd about himself—before his journey to the other world, he had already once crossed worlds.

His previous life had been in another parallel world similar to the current Earth, and perhaps this world now... is a 2D anime-like world???

He hadn't remembered it before, likely because something had stolen those memories. But after everything he'd experienced in the other world and returning to this body, his soul once again inhabiting it, it began picking up the remaining memory fragments within.

Influenced by his soul's core, those fragments started to sort themselves, trying to restore the lost memories.

The anime about magical girls that had popped into his head earlier, the one he couldn't find in this world—it probably belonged to that parallel world. And Icarus herself, was originally a character from a 2D anime in his past life—Heaven's Lost Property.

Though he had forgotten the series after his time in the other world, his overwhelming love for 2D may have transcended infinite dimensions and subconsciously recreated Icarus from Heaven's Lost Property.

She was a kuudere girl, self-proclaimed "Multi-Purpose Entertainment Angeloid," but also known as the "Queen of the Sky."

And now, this Icarus standing before him had indeed evolved into that very ideal version, just as he imagined—not just in appearance, but also in spirit.

She had started off that way, but now, because of her hatred toward his abandonment, she had entered her emotionless Queen of the Sky mode.

In every sense, Icarus had walked out of the 2D world and become his perfect angel girl. But she hadn't come to serve him—she came to prove that she was not a failed, discarded creation. To show him her love? [Hatred?]

In the end, would they sleep together in eternal slumber? Isn't this just a re-enactment of Chaos?

He really was a terribly sinful man.

Now, Yazuki felt a headache coming on. When Icarus truly awakens… what will happen?

At this point, the cold calm of the Demon King was gone—only the nervousness of an otaku remained.
