CASEY
Cesar only shrugged.
"I really don't give a fuck, Casey," he said, voice low. "Just like I told you... I'm in this for real. The only reason I'm even lying or sneaking around is for you, because I know you're not ready, or safe, or whatever. But me? I don't care if Leonard knows. I know you care. That's why I said all that bullshit."
I nodded, a little overwhelmed—but also strangely grateful. He cared enough to protect me from the fire, even if he wanted to throw gasoline on it. A part of me knew he would've loved to tell Leonard the truth just to spite him. Just to watch him explode.
I reached for my bag and turned to leave.
"I have to go."
But before I could take a step, Cesar caught my arm and pulled me back.
"I have to go," I snapped again.
"I know," he said softly, but he didn't move. "You never really answered me though… does this mean I'm your boyfriend now?"
