Caesar was throwing daggers at me with his eyes, and it felt like the whole table had turned their attention my way.
I swallowed hard. "Yes."
Caesar narrowed his eyes. "You went on a date? When was this?" he asked, voice clipped.
I narrowed my own eyes back. What did this have to do with him? I thought.
Of course, my mom—being my mom—jumped right in and gave Caesar the exact date and day of the date with Sebastian.
Caesar fell silent. For a few seconds, he just stared at me. Then he said,
"That was the day you came to sign your contract at Blackwell?"
"Yes," I answered honestly because it was.
He was quiet again. "That's the same day when—" He cut himself off abruptly. His gaze dropped from mine, then shifted to his father.
"Excuse me," he muttered. "I think I just lost my appetite." And with that, he stood up and walked away from the table.
What is wrong with this person? I thought, shaking my head in disbelief.
