"She's not coming."
I say to Father as I walk over to him on the lawn I found him on. The sun's kiss is one of mild warmth this afternoon, and the air smells neat… But not light. It has that undercurrent of darkness that Blood Crescent is known for.
Whispers of a darker force holding the kingdom together.
Suddenly, my eyes catch a glint in the distance, and the hairs on my skin rise when I realise what it is.
In the shadows… trees, and the tall buildings around.
"They're watching us," I whisper as I stand beside my father, and he nods.
"I know. They're scared. They should be." He replies, and I take a deep breath. Deciding to stare up at the sky with him.
"They're not a threat. The real problem is Mirelah… And her refusal to leave. Could they have done something to her mind? Maybe threatened her or…" Father continues, and I look at him for a few seconds before turning back to the sky.
