Damien's footsteps echoed as he stepped into the penthouse. His jaw was tight, his hands still twisting from the gun he'd pointed at James Bennett. He'd walked out of that house without pulling the trigger, but only for Chloe's sake.
The moment he entered, something felt off.
There was silence. Too much of it.
He glanced around. "Chloe?"
But there was nothing.
He reached onto the coffee table for his phone. He had left it back home because he didn't want the endless phone calls from everyone who would have tried to stop him from going to James.
When the phone lit up, he saw it — seventeen missed calls from Chloe. Four from Sebastian. One message flashing like a siren across his screen.
SEBASTIAN: SOS. I think Chloe's in danger. Call me NOW.
His chest tightened. He spun around to one of the bodyguards stationed by the door.
"Where is Miss Bennett?" He asked.
The man stiffened. "In her room, sir."
Damien was already moving. He slammed open the door to their room.
